Rewards, Gather, In-Game Store

Hold on Bumfuzzlers! We’ve got a new wipe cycle and a bunch of changes that I hope will change the way Modtopia game play works in a good way. We’ve got store expansions, resource gather changes, kit changes and more! Check it out.

Resources

For a while now, I’ve known I needed to take a look at the resource rates and kits. When people are finishing the wipe cycle with 100’s of rockets and C4, it says to me the gather rates are out of control. I’ve also seen full bases go armor on the second day of the wipe which should not be happening unless you’re playing 48 hours straight! So, now that some of my schedule has been freed up, I’m going to get back to basics and dial things down just a little.

Here’s what I’ve changed:

  • ZLevels are now capped at 50
  • ZLevel level multiplier reduced from 2.00 to 1.25 (each level gained will multiply less)
  • Quarries have been boosted to 10x during the day, 12.5x during the night

My hope is to make Quarries more valuable and reduce the high level resource multipliers for individuals. The drop from 2 to 1.25 should result in a 37.5% cut in resource gathering which shouldn’t be massive, but it will surely be a reduction that I hope will make building more meaningful and raiding a little more frequent.

Kits

Some of the kits were just way too generous and they went against what I was trying to accomplish. For instance, starter kits were giving people enough to not only get a starter base up, but build a retirement home. That simply can’t stand. It’s critical that players have to do ‘some’ work to get resources and build their homes.

Here’s what I changed:

  • Startup Build kit
    • Wood: 10k lowered to 5k wood
    • Stones: 10k lowered to 2.5k
    • Changed usage to 1 times per wipe
  • Aid kit
    • Changed from 6 hour cooldown to 24 hours
    • Removed meats, left medical supplies
  • Weapon kit
    • Removed ammo
    • Removed Waterpipe Shotgun
    • Removed Custom SMG
  • Tools kit removed (tools are given when you spawn)
  • Weekly kit removed (it wasn’t very valuable anyway)
  • Trump wall kit
    • Stone: 25k lowered to 7.5k
    • Stone Walls: 25 lowered to 7 walls

Bradley Loot

With the lowering of gathering, I raised up the loot for the Bradley. The loot it gives, should you live to see it, should be Bumfuzzler good!

Rockets, ammo, weapons, C4 and a bunch of scrap!

In-Game Store

This will need balancing over time, but so far I’ve gotten the things in there at reasonable starting points. Some things might be too expensive or vice versa, but that will need some feeling out and some feedback from you all.

What’s really great about the store is that you can buy blue prints and also Reward Perks so that item that’s eluding you like the Large Furnace blueprint or the Bolty with 2 times the damage can now be yours for a price! Thanks to soundklown for requesting blueprints!

So you’ve noticed that you’ve been gaining money as you play. This is what you’ll use to buy items in the store. Once you have money, simply type /s in game to open the store. Once open, you’re going to need what’s called Reward Points or RP. You can convert your money into RP by clicking on exchange. Right now it takes $50 to gain 1 RP. Items in the store range from 1 RP to 6 RP. The reason for the conversion requirement is simply that money can be will be used for other things in the future. For instance now, you can use money for /skin shop which allows you to buy default skins for your items.

Remember, you automatically get money every certain amount of minutes played, but you also get them for breaking barrels. Furthermore, don’t forget you can steal it from other players, get money for damage dealt to other players and of course killing them.

Plane Crash

It used to be that the plane would crash into the highest mountains in the map so I raised it up 10 meters. Now it appears that’s not enough so I raised it another 5 meters. I think it’s hitting structures that people are building on those mountains. Well, just be careful. I’m going to see about making the plane create some serious damage to whatever it hits 🙂 Thanks MrNiceGuy for pointing out the plane was still crashing!

Anti-Offline Protection

Last week I made changes to the offline protection. Now instead of 10 hours it lasts for 5 as each hour it lessens by 20%. Unfortunately I missed the automated message which some were confused by. Thanks to MrNiceGuy to letting me know about it!

NPCs

A few of you have told me that it appears the NPC health is way too high requiring multiple bolty shots to kill them. It turns out health:100 in the settings refers to 100% of their default health. Scientists have 100 health, but murderers – the dumber zombie AI we currently have on our server due to Facepunch bugginess – have 150 health by default. This means 100 is really 150 health.

Let’s try out setting them a little lower. I’ve reduced their health 30% to 70. This should lower their health just around 100 health. Let’s see how it is. Thanks to MrNiceGuy and soundklown for the feedback!

I’ve also made changes to Jason Vorhees:

  • Health was reduced by 50%
  • Reduced his inventory
    • Wood went from 5k to 2.5k
    • High Quality Metal Ore went from 5k to 250
    • Stone went from 5k > 1.5k
    • Metal Ore went from 5k to 500
    • Removed C4
    • Removed bones

Jason still has some cool clothing and some valuable Skin Perk tools. Just remember, if you don’t kill him, he’ll track you down and kill you when you least expect it 🙂

Wipe Schedule

Last night was a wipe so get building! 🙂 I hope the weekly schedule makes things a bit more fresh for you all. It certainly will give me the ability to fine tune the server and get an idea of how changes will affect gameplay. I’m hoping for better balance between builder and raider. I’m sure I’ll be making several adjustments over the next couple wipes based on observation and feedback from you all.

Btw, I know I rarely mention Vanillatopia, but that’s just because the Vanilla experience requires few changes. I am planning on adding some new plugins to it, but of course the foundations of it will remain as pure as I can keep them. Modtopia is another story. Please as always keep the feedback coming. Tank Hunter, Challenges, Perks

Phew! Got a lot of stuff for you Bumfuzzlers! Bunch of fixes to a few situations on Modtopia thanks to some great feedback and also some changes I think you’ll all like! Especially you big game hunters 🙂 For everyone else, Skin Perks is back to full strength! Read on!

Various Improvements

  • Code lock auto placement to boxes, doors, lockers, cupboards now works. It was a permission issue due to recent loyalty level changes (/code) – thanks CannonFodder!
  • Added ability to keep loot logs, but after a few players got kicked, I suspected it and disabled it!
  • Replaced Tempered Steel hatchet and Muddy Converse boot skins in the Hunter kit and in the Loot. They were removed from the Steam workshop. They should now work as Skin Perks with proper dodge and upgrade bonuses – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Spaz 12 Shotgun was added to the hunter kit for player challenges (/pc) – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Christmas items added to Christmas presents and stockings such as trees, garland, etc. – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Jason Vorhees NPC now gives Halloween related items so he can be more spooky! – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Skin Perks should now work properly. For some reason only a few were, but now all 100+ of them should – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Handyman was thought to repair without resources. I verified it does in fact use resources and enabled it again (/handyman) – Thanks MrNiceGuy!
  • Explosive distance kills will no longer be recorded in Player Challenges (/pc) – Thanks ATaXiA!

Outstanding Issues

  • Walking on a moving drawbridge will result in getting kicked due to a fly hack violation. The plugin author is aware and says he’ll look into it (/bridge.help) This also effects Vanillatopia – Thanks jarbar113 & ATaXia!
  • You can accidentally remove tuna can lamp from elevator and break it. Plugin author believes it’s due to a plugin conflict so I’m trying to track it down. Best advise, don’t use the elevator with your hammer out. If it’s not out, you won’t get the open to remove the tuna lamp (/newlift /liftaid) – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • The SuperHeli sometimes comes out at the same time as Chinooks. It’s believed the issue may be related to skipping night – Thanks ATaXia!

New Player Challenges

Along with the fixes to explosive distance kills, we now have 3 more titles – Tank Killer, Heli Hunter and Bot Hunter.

  • APC Kills [TankHunter] – most Bradley kills
  • Helicopter Kills [HeliHunter] – most SuperHeli kills
  • NPC Kills [BotHunter] – Most Bot/NPC kills

Check Player Challenges (/pc) to see who the leaders are! Each title will get you a kit (/kit) that will give you some goodies! I expect I’ll be updating the kits for challenges over the next couple weeks. I think they can be better, but we’ll see.

I’ve made a lot of small tweaks to both Vanillatopia and Modtopia which will hopefully equate to some improved gameplay for you Bumfuzzlers! We’ve got everything from resource spawning to meteor showers! Check it out!

Resource Spawning

The resources were spawning a bit slow on Vanillatopia so I decided to take a look at resource spawning on both Vanillatopia and Modtopia to see if I could make some improvements. Here’s what I changed:

  • Vanillatopia
    • Resources respawn 2x faster
    • Resources increased by 10%
  • Modtopia
    • Resources respawn 2x faster
    • Resources decreased by 10%

I decided to lower the resources on Modtopia because resource gathering is already very high and with all the plugins, this could increase performance for some people with lower end computers. Maybe some of you will get longer distance kills even! The amount of difference in count for instance is about 30 trees over the entire map.  I doubt it will be noticed and of course let me know if you feel any pain from this change and we can change it back. Keep in mind this is a change for all resources so it affects trees, animals, mushrooms, etc. It’s critical that I get feedback from you about how this is working. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)

Meteor Shower Event

What would life be without the occasional weather related disaster? Well, now, every so often, meteors will rain from the sky! They are random, in random areas of the map and they may be extreme or mild. They can absolutely do damage to players and buildings (but not much) so watch out! These showers come with falling debris in the form of resources!

This video does not do it justice, but it gives you an idea.

I’ve only added this event to Modtopia for now, but I’ll consider adding it to Vanillatopia in the coming weeks.

Bumfuzzler Forum

I’ve made a few additions to the forums that will hopefully make it more usable and friendly. Please enjoy the following tweaks!

  • Increased the font size in various areas
  • Added a visual editor for posting
  • Checkbox now default to notify you on responses
  • Can now post images inline
  • Can now use @mention and person will be notified

Loot Adjustments

I’ve made a few tweaks to the loot on both Vanillatopia and Modtopia in various forms. Here’s a run down of the changes.

  • Vanillatopia
    • Turned off blueprint spawning as they’re unlocked (I hope this time for good) (Thanks to Freshmeat911 for feedback)
    • Helicopter Pilot Eject event: the pilot now has inventory to loot (Thanks to Rayyy for suggestions)
    • Changed rarity of the Smoke Rocket to 3, the same as other rockets. It was disabled. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)
    • Smoke Rockets now spawn in Elite Crates. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)
  • Modtopia
    • Autokit for VIP: Removed food and torch, added 5 radiation pills (Thanks Orion and WRecKLeSS for feedback)
    • SuperHeli loot was weak. Now all crates will have at least 3 items each instead of sometimes 1 or 2 (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • SuperHeli loot now matches the SuperBradley loot tables (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • Ensured SuperHeli crates were set to 3 for regular and refuel events and at 1 for the pilot eject event (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • SuperBradley crates reduced from 4 to 3

Plane Crash

As has happened on Modtopia, it appears the plane was indeed crashing – into mountains! lol I’ve adjusted it’s fly height to 5 meters higher. Hopefully that will be the end to that. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)

Bumfuzzlers, again, we’ve got lots to talk about! On the heels of all the recent changes, I have a new batch of modifications that I hope you like. Here we go!

Anti-Offline Raiding

I was going to wait on this, but DJRYFY put it in my ear and I figured maybe making changes before a wipe is better than waiting a week. With the new absence of ladders inside of building blocked zones, it’ll be harder to raid and even without that fact, I’ve been wanting to change the offline raiding for a while now. My goals were two-fold. 1) give less protection time and 2) make it easier to understand. So here’s what I came up with:

As always, once you sign off, protection will kick in 15 minutes from that time. Once it kicks in, it will initially go to 100% and decrease each hour by 10%. This will give you Bumfuzzlers some protection for up to 10 hours so you can go to work, eat your TV dinner and still have some bonus to spare! In the previous mode you’d have some protection up to 36 hours so this is a major change.

Here’s an example based on a sign off of 11:45pm:

  • 11:45pm you sign off
  • 12:00am 0-1 hours 100% protection
  • 1:00am 1-2 hours 90% protection
  • 2:00am 2-3 hours 80% protection
  • 3:00am 3-4 hours 70% protection
  • 4:00am 4-5 hours 60% protection
  • 5:00am 5-6 hours 50% protection
  • 6:00am 6-7 hours 40% protection
  • 7:00am 7-8 hours 30% protection
  • 8:00am 8-9 hours 20% protection
  • 9:00am 9-10 hours 10% protection
  • 10:00am protection has ended

SuperHeli Adjustments

To me it seems like some big ticket items – and a lot of them – are really easy to get. For instance, the Helicopter Refuel and Pilot Eject events are really easy to complete successfully. So I got to thinking it would be a good idea to start trimming around the edges a little. I didn’t adjust the loot in the crates, but I did adjust the crate amounts. For the Helicopter Refuel I cut the crates from 6 to 3 and for the Pilot Eject event I cut the crates from 3 to 1.

I also adjusted the SuperHeli to make it easier to take down in terms of health, but I adjusted it slightly in aggression. I cut the health in half (now 7,500), but increased speed by 25%, upped blunt damage 40, explosive damage 40, explosion radius from 5 to 7.5 and increased max rockets by 5. I did cut you Bumfuzzlers a break by adjusting the time between rockets from 0.35 seconds to 0.50 seconds 🙂

Loot Rarity

There were some items that I felt were a little off in terms of rarity. There were also some situations where items never even spawned out there in the world and I figure why not? Let’s do it. For the sake of discussion, keep in mind the rarity is on a scale of 0 to 5 like so:

  • Never Spawn = 0
  • Common = 1
  • Uncommon = 2
  • Rare = 3
  • Very Rare = 4

The following items never spawned:

  • bbq adjusted 0 > 1
  • fireplace adjusted 0 > 1
  • floor grill adjusted 0 > 1
  • floor ladder hatch adjusted 0 > 1
  • wooden box adjusted 0 > 1
  • large wooden box adjusted 0 > 3
  • flare adjusted 0 > 2
  • snowball adjusted 0 > 1
  • snowman adjusted 0 > 2
  • all Christmas tree and decorations adjusted 0 > 2

The following items I always thought were strangely set:

  • furnace adjusted 3 > 2
  • furnace large adjusted 1 > 3
  • code lock adjusted 3 > 2

The following were adjusted to make quests (/q) a little easier:

  • bleach 2 > 1
  • blood 2 > 1
  • glue 2 > 1
  • duct tape 2 > 1

Running Man Change

For the last few weeks I’ve been thinking this plugin gives players a free reward for sitting on their bums in their base trying to avoid someone from killing them. On the other hand, it gives them a reward for revealing their location since other players use it to find out where a players base is. Well, right now at least, I think this whole thing is a bad idea. I want players to be able to keep their bases secret, I want others to explore and I don’t want to give Bumfuzzlers rewards for sitting on their tookus.

So for now, I’ve disabled this plugin until I can consider adjustments.

Teleportation Adjustments

I’ve given everyone 10 more teleports. By default, Bumfuzzlers now get 30, Legitimate 32, Veteran 34, Allegiance 40 and VIP 50. This should help out getting around better!

SuperBradley Changes

The SuperBradley has for a long time despised the NPCs and felt the need to torture them with an endless barrage of relentless damage! It never really made sense to have the tank fire on what would most likely be his own team! Now, the Bradley will play nice with the NPCs and only hate you 🙂

I’ve also made some changes to the Bradley as well. The SuperBradley now respawns after 30 minutes, has a start health 500 higher, it’s turrets were adjusted to shoot 20 meters further and the speed was adjusted down 20%. Additionally, crates were adjusted down to 3 to match the SuperHeli.

Lifetime Packages

After some careful thought and a couple requests, I’ve added lifetime packages to the Bumfuzzler store. However, for now, I’ve only added this to the Warp Master, Blueprint Master,  Builder, Gather, Hunter & Raider packages. You’ll now find these packages available in 1 month, 2 month or lifetime varieties. I’ll consider expanding this to the other packages in the near future. Check out the store for more information!

As always Bumfuzzlers, we have lots of goodies for you!

Absolute Sorter

If you’ve got OCD or just like to have your loot in order, you’re going to love this plugin. You can specify what a box is for and then easily, with the click of a button, dump only those items in that box! You can also have drop boxes so when you come in from gathering, simply accessing a box will dump all your content! Tremendous time saver for the truly organized! I would advise you take a look at the video below. It’s somewhat long-winded, but it’ll help you get the full potential out of this great addition!

Skin Perks

I’ve added 100 new Skin Perks for a total of 180 different Skin Perks! You should start finding them out there as you play. This batch are all clothing as we’ve already covered the weapons and tools. These items, for now until I balance them, will give you anywhere from 3% to 7% dodging damage ability. I personally like the potato head ski mask 🙂  One player found a sweet looking LR Skin Perk today! It was  a beauty! 🙂 Here are just a few of the many!

Instant Research

I’ve changed the research times back a little towards defaults to give the players with higher loyalty more benefits. For players just joining, it’ll take 10 seconds to research, for Legitimate and Veteran loyalty groups, it’ll drop down to 5 and then Allegiance and VIP loyalty groups instantly research!

Duelist

I’ve enabled Duels again for those of you who’d like to challenge a fellow Bumfuzzler to a beat down! Type /duel for more information and be ready to fight! If you see a giant round high wall stacked arena, that is in fact the very same place you’ll rumble!

Cupboard Messages

I’ve added a simple alert you’ll see when placing Tool Cupboards down. It’s mean to remind you that you need to put resources into the cabinet to prevent the decaying of your buildings. If you’re unsure of how to decay works, check out my post from the other day.

The North Pole

Santa is back with his little helpers up in the snow biome! There’s presents and boxes and wonderful things, but fear the elves! They aren’t too happy about you trying to take the toys they built from young children from across the world! You monster 🙂 I haven’t tested it thoroughly so let me know if you have issues.

Loot Adjustments

I’m still adjusting loot. Tonight I was working on the Bradley and Airdrops. It’s gotten better, but may still need some tweaking. I’ll await your feedback and go from there.

Hey Bumfuzzlers! I’ve made a couple of tweaks to the server and will be as usual continuing to tweak as I get feedback from everyone. Here’s a couple of the latest changes.

Monument NPCs

I overheard some chatter about how the bots were still a bit strong so I made two changes.

  • Raised respawn time to 15 min (was 10 min)
  • Lowered NPC count 1 or 2 per site

CCTV and Targeting Computers

On a scale of 1-5 where 5 is the rarest, these items were marked as a 4. I’ve lowered them to a 3 so they should be seen more frequently out there.

Automatic Authorization update

Until now, Automatic Authorization simply worked and you had no way of turning it off. Now you can decide if making friends, or being in a clan will determine if friends and clan mates are automatically authorized on your turrets and cupboards.

I have to check if /autoauth will show you some help for this plugin, but in the meantime, here are the commands available to you.

/autoauth clan – Add your clans mates to the auth list
/autoauth friends – Add your friends to the auth list
/autoauth autoclan – Toggles automatic authorization for clan members when placing objects
/autoauth autofriends – Toggles automatic authorization for friends when placing objects

Super Bradley

It appears the Bradley accidentally was not only super – it was super super and the health was accidentally set far too high. The health is now back where I intended it which is 3 times the normal health. At the same time, I made sure the crates were filled with extra wonderful items – I hope you agreed.

  • Lowered health to 1500 (normally 500)
  • Adjusted loot tables (more crates, more items per crate, better items)

Loot Tables

A week or so ago the loot tables got screwed up and I’ve been trying to find time to fix them all since. Unfortunately time has been an issue and this is a time consuming process. I am chipping away at it situation by situation though and I appreciate your patience. Items in boxes and barrels I think are now back to 5x and the Bradley is set. I still have to optimize the supply drop and elite crates and such. I’ll see what I can do. Please keep providing me with feedback about what seems to be off. I keep a list and certainly do listen.

Lusty Map

The in-game map now shows quite a few more items including unmanned cars! Hopefully this makes it easier for you to get your ride on 🙂

  • Gas station monuments
  • Super Market monuments
  • Bradley Tank position
  • Unmanned car positions

Remover Tool

I can’t tell you how many times I forgot I had the remover tool still active and removed something I didn’t mean to. Now when you activate the remover tool, it disables your active item and won’t let you reactivate it until the timer runs down or you disable it. Thanks to DjRYFY for this suggestion.

Loot Tables

Due to the new blueprint changes, I had to redesign the way the loot works. This will take a few weeks to get perfect – if that’s possible – and the changes Facepunch makes could increase that time. Please give me your feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Now, you can find at least 20 scrap in all containers and 3 – 4 different items. Hopefully all items will spawn in the world so you can make blueprints of them, but of course some are more rare than others.

Bradleys, Elite Crates and the Heli now all have 8 items per container! That’s some nice loot 🙂

Monument Bots

I reduced the Accuracy, Damage and Range of the bots you’ll find at all the monuments to make them less potent. Hopefully it’s a good balance between excitement and death! Please provide me with feedback on how they feel. I’ll continue to adjust them. Thanks to DjRYFY for this suggestion.

Agents, Soldiers & Scientists!

Agents, Soldiers & Scientists!

Be careful! Agents, Soldiers and Scientists are now guarding the monuments and even airdrops! They mean business and they will kill on sight! They’ll give you some loot if you kill them though.

Keep in mind they are a work in progress and may act erratic at times and there’s a good chance after a patch they may stop working again. Unfortunately this is the nature of Rust and until FacePunch completes this portion of the code it may be a bit rocky.

Also, in order to get these to work I had to disable the mod that buffs the Bradley and it’s loot so you may see a decrease in that for a while until the conflict can be worked out. I felt the bots were worth it.

Hey Bumfuzzler! There are TONS of changes since I last posted!

We’ve got 6 new plugins, a new VIP level called Legitimate and several adjustments based on some of the feedback you’ve given me! If you haven’t yet, make sure to add me on Steam to ensure you get me your feedback! 🙂

Here’s some of the server changes:

New Plugins

  • Handyman mod added: Allows repair of entire structure from anywhere within the structure (/HandyMan on|off) (Thanks to DjRYFY)
  • Team Deathmatch event mod added: Join in recurring TDM events
  • Deathmatch event mod added: Join in recurring DM events
  • BradleyControl mod added: Allows for more control of the Bradley tank
  • Old School Quarry mod added: Other loot added to quarries, allows for /getdeposit command (Thanks to DjRYFY)

SuperHeli

  • SuperHeli now comes every 3 hours instead of 2 and leaves after 15 minutes instead of 30 (Thanks MrNiceGuy)
  • SuperHeli health lowered by 25%

SuperBradley

  • Bradley now provides more than double the loot
  • Bradley health raised 30%

AI Bots (Temporarily disabled due last patch)

  • Added scientists, soldiers and agents at all monuments
  • Soldiers now spawn with airdrop to guard it
  • Soldiers and agents now spawn via parachute

VIP Levels

  • New VIP level called ‘Legitimate’ earnable at 420 loyalty points
  • Legitimate VIP level (420) unlocks the following plugins: Bounty, Dynamic Signs, KDGUI, Keep Active Item, Night Lantern, Old School Quarries, Show Crosshair, Sign Artist, Sleeper Animal Protection, Teleport increase
  • Recycler plugin now available at Allegiance level (2,880), removed from Veteran
  • Proximity Alert plugin now available at Allegiance level (2,880), removed from Veteran
  • Bloodtrail is enabled for all players except Allegiance and VIP
  • Veteran VIP level (1,440)and up have access to Handyman mod (/Handyman on|off)
  • New Legitimate VIP level (420) and up have access to additional Quarry loot
  • Veteran VIP level (1,440) and up have access to /getdeposit, checks ground content like survey charge w/o requiring survey charge
