Cowboys, Binoculars, Racing

As always Bumfuzzlers, I have some updates to let you know about! We’ve got some new abilities like individual weapon stats, binocular loot scanning, horse riding improvements, better car stability, you can upgrade work benches sooner and other changes! Read on!

Weapon Stats

If you can kill something with it, you can now see stats for it by looking at the details of the item. Simply open your inventory and click on the item. If there are stats, it’ll show and if there are no stats it’ll look as it always has.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t store lifetime stats as it’s only per item, but it should be pretty cool to know which weapon is lucky for ya. This means, if you have an AK, make kills with it and then get another AK, it won’t show the stats anymore. This is meant to show you the amount of kills you have for that specific item.

I’ve added this to both Modtopia and Vanillatopia.

Economics on Join (Modtopia)

It used to be that players new to the server started with a gift of $250. Well, sorry new joiners, but I’ve changed this to $0. I found too many people would start up and get certain items too quickly and I think it makes things a little too easy.

It doesn’t take long to get cash either via Discord or several minutes of game play anyway.

Loot Scanner (Modtopia)

Every wish you could know the contents of a box before bothering with it? Well, now, you can use your binoculars to scout out the contents of various containers!

All you have to do is simply zoom in over a supply drop, box or barrel and press USE!

This ability isn’t just for anyone. You’ll have to level up your Loyalty (/loyalty) to get these perks.

  • Level 19: Use binoculars spy contents of supply drops (zoom + USE)
  • Level 27: Use binoculars spy contents of crates and barrels (zoom + USE)

Also, note that as a result of the binoculars becoming a bit more useful, I’ve slightly increased the rarity of both the item and the blueprint.

Upgrade Workbench (Modtopia)

A few weeks ago I added the ability to upgrade workbenches. This is a real space-saver since it means not having to create Level 1, 2 and 3 workbenches in your base. The ability to upgrade workbenches means all you’d have to do is look at a workbench, type /upgradewb and it replaces the workbench with the next level bench.

The thing is, I made it so that this was only available to players at Level 28 and up which means you’d have to play quite a while to get access to something that most likely is more valuable to lower levels starting out in smallish bases.

I’ve bumped this perk up in levels so that now it’s available for players who are Level 8 and above. Enjoy!

Go Cowboy

I’ve always loved the ability to ride horses, but they’ve needed some tweaking for a while. In testing, I found it was way too hard to tame a horse since you had to be really close and at the same time, they were super fast, didn’t turn well and third person was an issue.

For those of you new to horse riding all you have to do when you see a horse is type /stophorse within distance of it. The horse will stop. Then press USE on it to mount. Spacebar will jump off the horse.

I’ve made the following changes:

  • Sprint speed was dropped from 50 to 40. Less choppy ride, still easily traverse map and outrun zambies.
  • Turn speed was increased from 3 to 5.
  • Horse no longer can die while riding
  • Third person is now disabled
  • Taming the horse is now required (/stophorse)
  • Taming distance was increased from 10 meters to 25 meters

Car Adjustments

I did a bunch of tinkering with the car as it’s been quite a jalopy of a machine for quite some time.

For those who don’t know, the car is really handy. Not only is it fast and fun, but it gives you the equivalent of a second backpack so going out on the town to gather items can be quite lucrative. Also, you can put a code lock on the trunk and hotwire other people’s cars if they locked it!

Here’s what was changed:

  • Originally spawned with 10-50 liters of fuel. Now you’ll get 25-75 liters.
  • You can now flip a turned over car by using /flipcar
  • Decay is reduced from 5 to 1
  • Lowered the maximum speed from 75 to 65 MPH
  • Cut fuel consumption rate in half from 0.5 (liters per second) to 0.25
  • Suspension dampening increased from 2,000 to 3,500

Overall, I think you’ll find the car much more enjoyable. It will use less fuel, has a more controllable top speed and has a much more stable suspension.

Meteor Radius

I’ve made a slight tweak to the Meteor Showers in that now they have a radius of 125 meters instead of 100 meters since I found they were a little too concentrated. Also the top end of the drops was slightly decreased.

Lock Car, Trigger C4, Wipe

Howdy Bumfuzzlers! Today’s updates go boom and vroom!! You’ll now have the ability lock up your cars and trigger the detonation of your C4! There’s some awesome mechanics involved in the both features so read on for details!

Lock your Car

For a while now, jumpingย  out of your car to grab loot created an uneasy feeling. Any Bumfuzzler could walk by and snag it from you! Now you can place a code lock on the trunk! Just don’t lock your keys in there ๐Ÿ™‚ With that, other players now have the ability to hot wire the car to steal it from you! It takes 45 seconds to attempt the hot wire, you’ll get shocked for every failed attempt and you have a 1 out of 5 chance at stealing it.

The Code Lock will use the Auto Code Lock feature so it will set your code automatically just like it does already for doors!

To compensate for players owning cars, I’ve changed the number of possible cars spawning from 6 to 8. Locking your rafts and boats I hope will be possible soon.

Triggered C4

Timed C4 is nice and it adds some suspense to the process of using them, but they’re so valuable so it sucks if you misplace one or it goes off before you wanted them to. Now, you can use C4 in both timed and triggered modes! Here’s how it works.

You can use /tec.mode to toggle the C4 mode. Placing it in triggered mode will cause C4 to be placed, but it won’t detonate until you tell it to. During this state you can actually pick up the C4 and place it again! When you’re ready to detonate the C4, simply type /tec.explode and every single C4 you have placed will explode at once. It’s quite awesome and great for online raids! Base owners will have no idea what’s going on until it’s too late!

You can useย /tec.modeย at any time to set the C4 mode back to timed and it will work the way it always has.

Map Issues

Unfortunately the map is really buggy right now and it’s not specific to Modtopia. You’ll experience the map turning black, indicators disappearing and funky delays in updates. It appears to be happening to everyone and there doesn’t seem to be a solution right now. I’ve found it has to do most with the zoomed mini-map feature so for now I changed the mini-map to simply default to the zoomed out mode. It’s not as nice, but it seems to stop the mini-map from going black. This might have less to do with the map than the way images are being loaded. We’ll see.

Player Challenge Rewards

It appears the Player Challenges (/pc) are working in that they show who is leading, but the plugin isn’t awarding kits. It appears there’s something wrong with the plugin itself, but I’m stuck at troubleshooting because I’m trying to avoid resetting everyone’s stats. That could solve the issue, but I’m somewhat doubtful. I’ll continue to work towards a solution.

This Thursday Wipe

Recently Facepunch screwed up our schedule and we wiped last week when we normally wouldn’t. In an attempt to get back on schedule, this Thursday will be a wipe. Otherwise we’ll have 3 weeks before a wipe and that’s simply too long for this server.

Big things going on with Rust and the server! I’ve got some updates on quarries, cars, plane crashing, the superheli and Rust leaving early access! Check this out for what you Bumfuzzlers need to know including a Valentine’s Day event preview!

Boss of Hearts

Well, Valentine’s Day is coming up and the server wants you to be its valentine ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve placed a February preview on one of the islands, but be careful. It’s called the Heart house and it’s home to the Boss of Hearts! She’s a little more of a brute than the other NPCs on the server. Get close enough to the Heart House and you’ll get yourself a hearty (get it? lol) kit haha Go at it and have some fun. I’ll be working on it a little more as I have time!

SuperHeli <3

I made a few small changes to the helicopter refuel event as it appeared to be somewhat easy for players. All you had to do was kill a few easy NPCs and then the SuperHeli sat there like a sitting duck waiting to be destroyed. I’ve made the following changes:

  • Max time it will decide to refuel was lowed to 500 from 600
  • Min time it will decide to refuel was lowered to 200 from 300
  • Time to refuel is now 120 lowered from 180
  • NPC Spawn Radius is now 5m instead of 4m

Hopefully it will give people less time to take out the NPCs and the SuperHeli which will make it slightly more challenging. I was going to enable the guns on it while refueling, but after testing it was too over powered. Thanks to Orion for his feedback and testing on the event.

Also, after speaking with the plugin author of HeliControl, it appears that the reason sometimes it appears the SuperHeli spawns so often is due to the fact that it spawns based on a timer and that timer doesn’t use the death of the last SuperHeli to determine the next spawn.

This means if the Superheli spawned at 4pm and is set to spawn every two hours and the pilot ejection event happens 4:20pm and then the refuel event happens at 4:59pm, the SuperHeli may still spawn at 5pm as it isn’t aware of the other events. The plugin author is going to detect the time of the last SuperHeli death and change the spawning to work based on that last death. I can’t promise when that will happen. In turn, expect sometimes the SuperHeli may haunt you.

Quarry Loot Fix

I believed the Quarries were set to output 5 times the normal amount, but the setting I used actually meant that it would spit out 5 of whatever item every 30-60 seconds. This made for some very slow earnings. I’ve now changed it so it’s 5 times that. Thanks to Jarl Balgruuf for noticing the slow trickle of resources.

Plane Crash off Center

There’s been a few times where the low-flying plane would crash into the mountains and this seemed mostly due to it flying over the very center of the map each time it spawned. A few of you asked to have it more varied in its flight path too. Now there’s a fix to ensure the plane doesn’t spawn over the center of the map each time like it once did. Hopefully this gives more players a chance at it.

Flippin’ Cars

The vehicles have had a bunch of issues, but most glaringly is the fact that sometimes you can get stuck and screwed up if the car flips upside down! Well now, it will automatically eject players from the car when it goes upside down and there’s now a command (/flipcar) that you can use to flip an upside down car over!

Rust Leaving Early Access

It’s hard to believe it, but Facepunch has finally declared on February 8th they will be leaving early access, but what does this mean to you? There’s surely some things that will change. They suggest one of them won’t be staff dedicated to the game and cite the reasons for making the change that they finally can say for sure they know where they are going with the game lol Sure took them long enough to do that! Two main things stand out to me as major changes:

  • Game updates will be changed to once per month instead of once per week
  • The game price will increase from $19.99 to $34.99

Surely this will save time for server admin like me as I can say updating the server every week can be challenging. For you Bumfuzzlers, you should have a more stable game with more meaningful patches each month. At least, that’s my expectation ๐Ÿ™‚ I could be wrong.

I am really excited for this update! Security cameras?? Are you Bumfuzzlering me? No. It’s true and it’s awesome! We have that and other changes so buckle up and read on! ๐Ÿ™‚

Security Cameras

However awesome this may sound or the video below shows it to be, it’s better. Imagine having a camera at your door or down a specific hallway and then being able to move it around to see everything in that area! So awesome!

Here are some facts about the security camera:

  • Plugin is available to all players, not just VIPs
  • Each base is limited to 6 cameras
  • To enter/exit camera view use activate at the targeting computer
  • Use /sc to show the help menu for the plugin

Enjoy this plugin everyone! I have a feeling this will be a real game changer for defense of online raiding and it may determine which walls raiders take out first!

Quarry Changes

DjRYFY made a suggestion a few weeks ago when Facepunch made a change to the Quarries – they placed them as monuments and made them unavailable otherwise – and it was in the spirit of what I believe Facepunch wanted to happen. The suggestion was to boost the quarries to make them more important to hopefully cause fighting over that area.

So, I’ve done a couple of things.

  • The Pump Jack, Mining Quarry and Survey Charge can still be found in the world, but I’ve made them more rare.
  • I raised the output of the Mining Quarries from 2x to 5x.
  • I’ve slightly lowered, not by much, the High Quality Metal gather rate.

This will hopefully cause quite the battle over the quarry monuments. Don’t worry, there aren’t any NPCs around the quarries yet ๐Ÿ™‚

Cars

The speed of the car seems to be nuts. I lowered it by 25%. Maybe this will make it more useful by making it more controllable.

I’ve made some adjustments to the server that I thought you’d like to know about. We have a new quest, a redesign of The North Pole, some adjustments to car handling, fuel and raiding players who are new to the server.

Elf Run

Santa’s Helpers are running around with the batteries that weren’t included in Christmas presents (batteries not included lol) trying to help Santa get them to the right houses for all the young girls and boys out there. You’re just the Bumfuzzler to spoil Christmas for them by killing the elves and taking their batteries to complete a new quest called Elf Run. In exchange you’ll get the following 3 Skin Perks:

Type /q to choose the quest. You’ll find it under Loot. Enjoy!

The North Pole

The North Pole has been redesigned, but the same premise.

At night, the doors open automatically, and there by the fireplace, the Christmas tree glimmers with the possibility of loot. Nearly every box has a Skin Perk, but the boxes won’t be full each time. Each box refreshes its loot every hour or 6. Which box has goodies will greatly depend on the individual box timers and when someone was there last. Good luck!

I hope you show up at the right time. Either way, the elves are waiting for you to have Christmas dinner ๐Ÿ™‚

New Player Raiding

I’ve noticed new players joining the server and getting raided immediately. Most of them leave shortly after. They don’t even have time to get a feel for the server and make it their new home and that stifles server growth. I’ve put in place a plugin that will prevent new players from being raided for their first 24 hours of game play on the server. However, if they raid someone all bets are off and their protection will end abruptly!

If you raid someone who is protected, it should give you a message and refund whatever you used – C4, Rockets, etc. If you want to check if an item of building is protected, look at the item or building and type /checknew

Player Challenges

The player challenge leaderboards should now be fixed so when you achieve greatness, you’ll get the designated kit associated with it. Type /pc to see the leaderboards and /kit to see the kits you could receive for each challenge. I’m in the process of revamping these kits to make them even more lucrative!

Furnaces & Fuel

It appears due to an update to No Fuel Requirements, a plugin that VIPs have access to which allows them to do without the requirement of fuel, was going beyond lights and working for furnaces and other fuel burning items. This was not the original intention. I’ve fixed this thanks to a heads up byย DHJ Doge [GW]. Turns out a recent update to the plugin changed the configuration.

The Garage Door gets my vote as the best feature of the week, but Halloween items are also very nice!

Aside from updating a few plugins here and there, I’ve made a couple of tweaks to hopefully balance things out a bit and make sure things are working as expected.

Quarry Multipliers

I realized that the Quarries were set to multiply by 5x which was a bit high. I’ve set this back down to 2x. I’ll adjust it as needed, but I think 2x is still valuable enough to put up a quarry. Let’s see how it goes.

Iceberg Homes

Saintbob brought to my attention that homes on Icebergs didn’t work! I had no idea. Well, now it’s fixed so thanks Saintbob! ๐Ÿ™‚

Running Man Rewards

The rewards for surviving, or staying in your base like a wussy seemed a bit high so I reduced them. I’ve set them as follows:

Wood: 0 – 50000
Stone: 0 – 50000
Metal Ore: 0 – 5000
High Quality Metal Ore: 0 – 2500
Cloth: 0 – 5000
Leather:ย  0 – 5000

So it’s a random setting. You never know what you’re going to get. The killer gets double this amount. I’m considering really sweetening the deal for killers to make them really go for the kill!

Driving Cars

Sorry, but I disabled the ability for the car driver to drive and shoot. Passengers can still shoot however. I call shotgun! ๐Ÿ™‚

As always, Thursday brings updates and while there’s not anything major, here are several smaller updates that may add up to something good. I’m interested to see the new Map Coordinate feature for instance. Also it appears the Bradley will now drop Elite creates and certain items like the Stone Spear will now be a default blueprint. That and other balances might make for a nice updates.

Lusty Map

The in-game map now shows quite a few more items including unmanned cars! Hopefully this makes it easier for you to get your ride on ๐Ÿ™‚

Remover Tool

I can’t tell you how many times I forgot I had the remover tool still active and removed something I didn’t mean to. Now when you activate the remover tool, it disables your active item and won’t let you reactivate it until the timer runs down or you disable it. Thanks to DjRYFY for this suggestion.

Loot Tables

Due to the new blueprint changes, I had to redesign the way the loot works. This will take a few weeks to get perfect – if that’s possible – and the changes Facepunch makes could increase that time. Please give me your feedback on what works and what doesn’t. Now, you can find at least 20 scrap in all containers and 3 – 4 different items. Hopefully all items will spawn in the world so you can make blueprints of them, but of course some are more rare than others.

Bradleys, Elite Crates and the Heli now all have 8 items per container! That’s some nice loot ๐Ÿ™‚

Monument Bots

I reduced the Accuracy, Damage and Range of the bots you’ll find at all the monuments to make them less potent. Hopefully it’s a good balance between excitement and death! Please provide me with feedback on how they feel. I’ll continue to adjust them.ย Thanks to DjRYFY for this suggestion.

Suspension, Bullet Damage

Suspension, Bullet Damage

The cars have had an overhaul in physics and should now be more responsive when driving. They even include some clever hand braking updates that will allow you to power slide around corners like a Bumfuzzler ๐Ÿ™‚ Additionally, the bullet damage to cars has been increased by 200 times. Now 1 bullet is around 1 damage as opposed to 0.005.
