Workshop, Shock, Shopping

Well, it’s that time of year again Bumfuzzlers! Being naughty or nice will determine whether you get coal or goodies! Lucky for you, all Bumfuzzlers are nice! That means, no matter what, you get goodies 🙂 We’ve got a Christmas event, in-game store, economy, scientists, stacking, in-game map changes and more! Read on!

The North Pole (Modtopia)

Given the time of year, Santa’s Workshop is making a comeback! All the toys are being made up in the snow biome (not necessarily North) ready and waiting for you to get your dirty paws on them! Thing is, you’re going to have to get past the elves who guard the workshop, sneak in and get out quick before Santa wakes up!

There’s a couple things to note:

  1. The doors will automatically open at night. During the day they’re locked. If you try to activate on the door, it’ll tell you the time of day it opens.
  2. The doors will also close so if Santa wakes up while you’re inside, you’re going to be in big trouble. I’d suggest you get out quick.
  3. The boxes inside refresh loot automatically which could be hours or days. If they’re empty, someone might have been there before you or the loot just hasn’t refreshed yet.

The loot should be pretty good, but it should be even better after the next wipe when changes to the store make some items a little harder to get. Read more about that down below. Have fun! 🙂

Cheer and Fear (Modtopia)

If you’re big on the holidays, you may be interested in a collection of Christmas and Halloween items I’ve put together! You Bumfuzzlers can now buy a Christmas Cheer or a Halloween Fear kit that gives you access to foggers and Christmas lights, coffins and Christmas Trees.

It’s a great way to support the server and get some goodies in return! Run over to the store to check them out!

Christmas Shopping (Modtopia)

From the start of the last wipe, it became even more clear to me that the in-game store (/s) needs a bit of work as does the economic system. So, I’m going to be making changes come the next wipe (December 20th).

Here are the major changes:

  • Special items that give dodge, build or damage powers will be removed. You’ll have to find them out in the world which I think will be more enjoyable anyway.
  • Various raid related items like ladders will be removed. We don’t want to allow the in-game store to give too much of a jump on builders. Raiding day 2 is just silly.
  • Ammunition, especially rockets, C4, Satchels and such will be removed for the same reason as above. I’ll leave certain blueprints, but you’re going to have to craft.
  • Resources and components will be removed. Now you’ll have to get off your big fat fatty lol and smack a barrel or two instead of buying 10.000 RP of HQM to build a giant armored base on day 1. (You know who you are! lol)
  • Removed a lot of ‘actual’ items from the store. The blueprints will remain, but the actual items will be removed. You’re going to have to craft.

Here’s a list of some minor changes:

  • Hazmat Suit now gives 1 quantity
  • Santa hat now gives 1 quantity
  • Diving items were removed
  • Frog Boots now gives 1 quantity
  • Scientist Suit now gives 1 quantity
  • Pookie Bear was removed
  • Calling/Killing SuperHeli price raised slightly
  • Calling/Killing CH47 price raised slightly
  • Setting time to 9am/9pm price raised slightly

No doubt this all means balancing of loot will have to be spot on and I’m prepared to monitor it as well as I can. I’ll need feedback from you Bumfuzzlers about any difficulties you’re having with the changes.

Wipe Cycle (Modtopia)

On Modtopia, we’ve changed the wipe cycle to 2 weeks. Thank you to everyone who voted in Discord!

There may be some items I probably have to adjust due to the change (possibly kits and quests), but I think it’ll be for the better just because the 1 month cycle resulted in a low turnout the last two weeks even with the attempted idea of Wipe Kits (which has now been tried and buried so that won’t be happening again).

The point is, struggle along with me in balancing and continue to give me feedback. I’m confident it’ll come out better in the end, but it might take some time and effort.

Economics (Modtopia)

With the changes to the store and to the wipe cycle, I’ve also decided that everyone’s monetary balance needs to reset from time to time.

Right now players can save up their cash just before the wipe and then immediately spend it to get ahead of other players. That causes major issues for players without monies, but it dramatically hurts new players joining the server for the first time at the start of a wipe.

So on the 1st Thursday of every month, when we wipe blueprints, your money will return to 0. Sorry Rockefellers! 🙁

Money Barrels (Modtopia)

Earning money from breaking barrels wasn’t working for some levels (/loyalty), but it worked for others. After testing, it appears that anyone getting earnings per barrel lower than $0.51 received nothing! This meant anyone below Veteran level, even though promised, were a bunch of broke Bumfuzzlers!

To resolve this, you now get money for every 4th barrel instead of every single barrel. This way, the Native level who originally was set to earn $0.25 per barrel will now earn $1 for every 4 and it’ll work just fine. Legitimate levels who earned $0.50 now earn $2 every 4 barrels and so on.

In-Game Map (Modtopia)

You’ll now be able to see the SuperHeli and the Bradley on the in-game map (press G) displayed as a red dot. You can mouse over the dot to make sure which one it is.

I have the ability now to show any items on the map so I am considering it, but I don’t want to show too much. I appreciate the whole process of discovery and adventure and while it might be useful to show cars, boats and balloons, it’s no fun when you know where everything is. I’m not even sure I like showing the SuperHeli and Bradley, but let’s give it a shot.

Recently, a bunch of new items were added to the game, so I had to adjust who those items stacked in inventory.

Electricity (Modtopia)

With the newness of electricity, I know lots of you probably want to mess around with it. Thing is, it might take you some time to find all the pieces and then to have enough to truly experiment like you’d want to. So I figured I’d put up a package in the store that allows you to purchase all the components and then some. You get goodies, server gets supported and it’s not OP. Worst case, it allows you to better defend your base against pesky raiders.

The kit includes big items like solar panels, batteries large and small, a wind turbine, components, switches and even a generator which isn’t even in the loot rotation right now (only admins can spawn it).

At the least, you’ll have light, at the most, you’ll have experience with making traps or useful time savers like auto lights and doors.

Scientists (Modtopia)

I didn’t like scientists spawning at the junk piles (and based on feedback neither did many of you), but I think it’s appropriate to have them in the Military Tunnels and on the Cargo Ship – and now they are. Hopefully this makes those coveted areas a little more challenging.

My Corpse? (Modtopia)

I’ve been having nothing but issues with the /where command. I’ve worked with it several times and sometimes it works for me, it doesn’t for someone else, and vice versa. I’m going to work on this more in the coming weeks, but for now I just disabled it. I hope to get it, or something like it working soon.

Ore Counts (Modtopia)

For some reason ore counts reset during the last wipe which is a bit of a pain since I couldn’t remember what they were set to (lol) and it was balanced really well! I think now the ore counts are slightly higher than I’d like, but it’s better than being too low.  I’ll work at balancing them out over the next few days/weeks.

Please let me know how you feel the balance is. That’ll help me adjust the levels.

M39 Rifle (Modtopia)

Some of you have asked where you can find the new M39 Rifle so I had a closer look. It was available in the Locked Crate and Elite Crate, but now I’ve added it to the Bradley and SuperHeli loot as well. It’s considered rare, but not very rare which means it’s more rare than a pick axe, less rare than C4, and exactly as rare as a Python.

Patch Installed (Modtopia)

There was an optional patch I installed on Modtopia and Vanillatopia around 11am today with the following changes:

  • Fixed LS red card puzzle
  • Several exploit fixes
  • Clatter helm craft enabled

Christmas Update

You can expect the official Rust Christmas update to come on this Thursday, December 13th. I’ll try my best to get the server updated as soon as it drops, but as always I don’t know exactly when Facepunch will work their magic. I’m excited to see what they add this time around. I thought the Halloween update was very creative!

Elves, North Pole, Raiding

I’ve made some adjustments to the server that I thought you’d like to know about. We have a new quest, a redesign of The North Pole, some adjustments to car handling, fuel and raiding players who are new to the server.

Elf Run

Santa’s Helpers are running around with the batteries that weren’t included in Christmas presents (batteries not included lol) trying to help Santa get them to the right houses for all the young girls and boys out there. You’re just the Bumfuzzler to spoil Christmas for them by killing the elves and taking their batteries to complete a new quest called Elf Run. In exchange you’ll get the following 3 Skin Perks:

Type /q to choose the quest. You’ll find it under Loot. Enjoy!

The North Pole

The North Pole has been redesigned, but the same premise.

At night, the doors open automatically, and there by the fireplace, the Christmas tree glimmers with the possibility of loot. Nearly every box has a Skin Perk, but the boxes won’t be full each time. Each box refreshes its loot every hour or 6. Which box has goodies will greatly depend on the individual box timers and when someone was there last. Good luck!

I hope you show up at the right time. Either way, the elves are waiting for you to have Christmas dinner 🙂

New Player Raiding

I’ve noticed new players joining the server and getting raided immediately. Most of them leave shortly after. They don’t even have time to get a feel for the server and make it their new home and that stifles server growth. I’ve put in place a plugin that will prevent new players from being raided for their first 24 hours of game play on the server. However, if they raid someone all bets are off and their protection will end abruptly!

If you raid someone who is protected, it should give you a message and refund whatever you used – C4, Rockets, etc. If you want to check if an item of building is protected, look at the item or building and type /checknew

Player Challenges

The player challenge leaderboards should now be fixed so when you achieve greatness, you’ll get the designated kit associated with it. Type /pc to see the leaderboards and /kit to see the kits you could receive for each challenge. I’m in the process of revamping these kits to make them even more lucrative!

Furnaces & Fuel

It appears due to an update to No Fuel Requirements, a plugin that VIPs have access to which allows them to do without the requirement of fuel, was going beyond lights and working for furnaces and other fuel burning items. This was not the original intention. I’ve fixed this thanks to a heads up by DHJ Doge [GW]. Turns out a recent update to the plugin changed the configuration.

As always Bumfuzzlers, we have lots of goodies for you!

Absolute Sorter

If you’ve got OCD or just like to have your loot in order, you’re going to love this plugin. You can specify what a box is for and then easily, with the click of a button, dump only those items in that box! You can also have drop boxes so when you come in from gathering, simply accessing a box will dump all your content! Tremendous time saver for the truly organized! I would advise you take a look at the video below. It’s somewhat long-winded, but it’ll help you get the full potential out of this great addition!

Skin Perks

I’ve added 100 new Skin Perks for a total of 180 different Skin Perks! You should start finding them out there as you play. This batch are all clothing as we’ve already covered the weapons and tools. These items, for now until I balance them, will give you anywhere from 3% to 7% dodging damage ability. I personally like the potato head ski mask 🙂  One player found a sweet looking LR Skin Perk today! It was  a beauty! 🙂 Here are just a few of the many!

Instant Research

I’ve changed the research times back a little towards defaults to give the players with higher loyalty more benefits. For players just joining, it’ll take 10 seconds to research, for Legitimate and Veteran loyalty groups, it’ll drop down to 5 and then Allegiance and VIP loyalty groups instantly research!

Duelist

I’ve enabled Duels again for those of you who’d like to challenge a fellow Bumfuzzler to a beat down! Type /duel for more information and be ready to fight! If you see a giant round high wall stacked arena, that is in fact the very same place you’ll rumble!

Cupboard Messages

I’ve added a simple alert you’ll see when placing Tool Cupboards down. It’s mean to remind you that you need to put resources into the cabinet to prevent the decaying of your buildings. If you’re unsure of how to decay works, check out my post from the other day.

The North Pole

Santa is back with his little helpers up in the snow biome! There’s presents and boxes and wonderful things, but fear the elves! They aren’t too happy about you trying to take the toys they built from young children from across the world! You monster 🙂 I haven’t tested it thoroughly so let me know if you have issues.

Loot Adjustments

I’m still adjusting loot. Tonight I was working on the Bradley and Airdrops. It’s gotten better, but may still need some tweaking. I’ll await your feedback and go from there.

I’ve made a few changes to the server in recent days and wanted to keep you up to date! Check it out Bumfuzzlers!

North Pole

Thanks to soundklown, one of our resident Bumfuzzler VIPs, some issues with Santa’s place were brought to the forefront and I “think” I fixed them. I’ll have to review tonight if I have time. Apparently after finding himself trapped at the North Pole when daylight struck and the magical doors shut, he was able to get out through trickery! We’ll we can’t have any of that 🙂 I’ve since changed things around to make that hopefully impossible.

Additionally, to make it harder to get all the loot, all the boxes have been fixed with code locks! The code for them is hidden in two different places within the building. Also, keep in mind, not every box will have items in them each time you go. They replenish on timers anywhere between 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 1 day and 2 days.

Elves Upped

They were a little weak. I mean, they are protecting the North Pole. I’ve upped them in a few categories like health, damage, accuracy and range. I hope they give you more trouble. I think after the next wipe, I’ll be widening the zone so players can’t put turrets so close to the building. This will make it more difficult.

Dodge Nerfed

I’ve lowered the values on various attire with the dodge attribute. Apparently there were a couple too high and some players were near invincible because they dodged every shot. Even if you now have all of the wearables enabled, you can’t get higher than 26% dodge. Special thanks to DHJ Doge for pointing out this flaw!

Also, keep in mind the way dodge works. You don’t literally dodge the shots from other players. The damage just simply doesn’t register. Keep this in mind when other players don’t take damage even when you feel  you’ve headshotted them. Also watch the chat for messages that the player has dodged the attack.

Trapper

Originally, for Allegiance and VIP loyalty groups, snap traps would automatically reset after 15 seconds. After a discussion with DHJ Doge (thanks again for the feedback) I’ve changed this to 5 minutes as it would be a bit overpowered if someone put traps all over their base. Additionally, while VIP traps (snap traps and landmines) wouldn’t damage themselves or friends, it’s now been extended to clan mates as well.

Crashing

Over the last couple days we had a couple of crashes. After working with my service provider it turns out we were hitting the RAM ceiling. They’ve extended it and I’ll be monitoring it. I’m sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused. I’m not sure what caused the RAM feeding on the server side. Possibly it’s due to adding those Elves and Santa’s North Pole which includes some new functionality. Regardless, my goal is to make your time on the server as fun as possible and crashes are not fun, so please know I’m on top of it as best I can be. Let me know if you have any issues. Special thanks to Maddawg, DHJ Doge, DJRYFY, soundklown and MattieMajestic for keeping me updated on server performance.

UPDATE: I was told by my provider: “Unfortunately the more recent Rust updates have caused higher than normal RAM consumption. The limit was increased by 1GB in this case. Whether this helps over the long term I cannot indicate.” We’ll see how it goes I guess.

I’ve got some updates for you Bumfuzzlers! Here’s a list of some recent additions to the server!

Skin Perks

I’ve added 6 more Skin Perks to the server and my hope is you’ll find them useful! Here’s a list of them along with some pictures so you can easily identify them.

  • Skullcrusher (Hammer) 15% less resources
  • Campaign (Cap) 10% dodge
  • Madness (MP5) 2x damage to animals/players
  • Red Rag (Bandana) 15% dodge
  • The Doge (Bolt Action Rifle) 2x damage to animals/players (Thanks to Doge for suggestion)
  • Samurai (Bandana) 10% dodge

 

Over the next few weeks I’ll be adjusting their power and rarity. For now I’m just adding them in.

Santa’s Elves

If you venture up to the North Pole or are hanging out in the Snow Biome, you may run across some of Santa’s little helpers. Unfortunately, they’re a bit cranky from all the work old Saint Nick is making them do. I originally disabled the North Pole event, but testing has proven to be successful so it’s on like Donkey Kong! Doors open at 22:00. Don’t be late and don’t get trapped inside!

Friend User Interface

I’ve added a graphical interface for friends that makes it really easy to add/remove friends, send teleport requests and trade. It’s really awesome! Just type /fmenu and it will open up the menu. From there it’s pretty easy to understand. Hope you enjoy it! This improvement was made possible by the latest, very gracious donation by MattieMajestic. Thanks for your generosity!

Santa, Christmas, Night

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even a Bumfuzzler! Indeed, Christmas time is upon us which means goodies from good ol’ Saint Nick for all you good (and bad lol) Bumfuzzler boys and girls! And where does Santa make the toys you ask?? At the North Pole in the Snow Biome! Where else?

Inside the Santa’s secret workshop in the North Pole are many, many boxes filled with everything from small goodies like resources to large goodies like Perks and boom booms! Even the many stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that Santa and elves would be asleep without care!

The trick to the North Pole is that the doors and boxes are magical! The doors won’t open for explosives and they won’t open with a code or a key! They only open at night when the elves are sleeping! The boxes in the North Pole will not always have items in them because they’re magical as well! Today one box may be empty, but in an hour, the next day or a week later, it will have some of the most sought after goodliness on Bumfuzzler Modtopia! Just as the Clause’s were nestled all snug in their beds with visions of sugar-plums dancing in their heads, you show up to take their loot!

Be careful though! The doors automatically open at night, but they automatically close during the day. If you don’t get in and out quick, you may get locked in with the elves and they aren’t very friendly to people trying to steal their hard work! Then again, maybe the elves aren’t what you should be worried about. Others are bound to want that loot as well 😉
