What is the Raid Shield?
Raid Shield is a completely custom, one-of-a-kind plugin that can only be found on Bumfuzzler servers and a great addition to Facepunch’s Rust. Raid Shield provides protection to player bases, based on a number of conditions so they are impervious to raids, but only temporarily.
How does the Raid Shield Work?
Loyalty Raid Shield
When players first join a Bumfuzzler server, they are automatically given a Loyalty Raid Shield that protects any base they create. This protection starts at Loyalty (/loyalty) Level 1 and lasts until the player reaches Loyalty (/loyalty) Level 15. Once they reach Level 15, their Raid Shield is automatically disabled. However, prior to Level 15, if players want to keep their Raid Shield, they’ll have to be on their best behavior.
Each time they craft raiding materials or damage another person’s base or belongings prior to Level 15, they will be given an aggression strike and once they reach 5 aggression strikes, their Loyalty Raid Shield will be disabled forever. In addition, if players with Loyalty Raid Shield are authorized on a Tool Cupboard with players who have exceeded the aggression strike limit or have aggression penalties (more on penalties later), the shield for that base will not turn on.
Once players have lost their Loyalty Raid Shield, they still have the ability to obtain a Raid Shield, but in a totally different way. Now they can charge their Raid Shield with playtime, for offline use.
Offline Raid Shield
When players are online, they are automatically accruing shield charge time by playing. For every minute played, a minute is earned towards the Raid Shield’s charge for up to 12 hours. When a player with a shield charge goes offline, the Raid Shield will automatically turn on 10 minutes after signing off unless the player has aggression penalties (more on that soon) or they’ve been raided. If raided, the Raid Shield will be paused for 30 minutes, from the last moment the base was damaged, to allow raiders to continue their raid.
If a player craft raiding materials or damages another person’s base or belongings, they will be given an aggression penalty for 120 minutes. During these 120 minutes, the player will not earn a shield charge and their offline Raid Shield will not turn on. For instance, if a player has 1 hour of shield charge, raids another player, and then signs off, their Raid Shield will not turn on for 120 minutes.
If a player goes offline, and another player authorized on their Tool Cupboard has an aggression penalty, the Raid Shield for that base will not turn on. However, the built-up shield charge will be used anyway. If you are offline, but someone authorized on your Tool Cupboard comes online, your Raid Shield will continue to protect the base – as long as they have no aggression penalties. If two out of 3 players are authorized on the Tool Cupboard sign-off, and both have saved charge, the Raid Shield will be turned on and both players’ charges will be used.
If there is a mixture of players with the Loyalty Shield and Offline Shield authorized on a Tool Cupboard, all of the players must be free of aggression penalties. If any of the players have aggression penalties, the Raid Shield will not protect the base.
When inside the Raid Shield, owners of the shield will be penalized if they attack other players from their raid shield. Additionally, if a player outside of a Raid Shield, shoots a player inside of a Raid Shield, they will be penalized. Players inside of a Raid Shield will not be damaged.
Raid Shield Conditions
To have a Raid Shield enabled you must meet the following conditions:
- A player has a Loyalty Level (/loyalty) between Level 1 and Level 15 not having exceeded aggression strikes and is not authorized on a Tool Cupboard where others have aggression penalties
- If a player has exceeded aggression strikes, they have played online enough to earn shield charge and is offline without aggression penalties for at least 10 minutes, hasn’t been raided in 30 minutes, and is not authorized on a Tool Cupboard where others have aggression penalties
Aggression Strikes & Penalties
Your Raid Shield protection is provided to you as long as you don’t perform aggressive acts. If you act aggressively, you will lose your protection and be prevented from turning it on.
You can get aggression strikes or aggression penalties for the following reasons:
- If you damage another player’s base or their possessions
- If you craft raiding materials (Timed Explosive, Satchel Charges, Rockets)
While you have a Loyalty Raid Shield, you’ll receive aggression strikes for committing acts of aggression. These strikes provide you with the opportunity to ‘change your ways’ and decide to be peaceful in order to live out your Raid Shield protection until Level 15. Once you commit 5 aggression strikes, your blanket protection is lost. From there you can charge your shield, but you must earn it with playtime.
Penalties work differently than aggression strikes. After you’ve lost your Loyalty Raid Shield either by exceeding your aggression strikes or reaching Level 15, you can then charge your shield for offline use with playtime. If you commit act of aggression you will receive aggression penalties which last 120 minutes. While you have an aggression penalty, your Offline Raid Shield will not turn on and you will not earn a shield charge.
Teams of 2 and larger will receive additional penalty minutes.
- Team of 2: 150 minutes
- Team of 3: 180 minutes
Understanding the Status of a Raid Shield
To understand if your base is protected by Raid Shield, stand within the Tool Cupboard radius. In the interface, you will see an indicator that says either Shield Active or Shield Inactive.

The following Raid Shield indicator suggests the shield is inactive, but all other information about the shield is unknown because it is not your shield.

The following Raid Shield indicator suggests the shield is inactive and it is not charging because you or a teammate has a penalty that will last an additional 35 minutes. Your Raid Shield is fully charged for 18 hours.
The following Raid Shield indicator suggests the shield is inactive, you and your teammates have no penalties, and the shield is fully charged. Your Raid Shield is fully charged for 18 hours.

Raid Shield Tips
When you start out on Bumfuzzler servers, it’s wise to hold on to your Loyalty Raid Shield for some time. Raiding right away will automatically forfeit your Raid Shield leaving you open to raids. Taking your time to understand the server and live in peace will give you the opportunity to build a base without worry that someone will raid you both online or offline.
Keep in mind that Raid Shield will protect every single one of your bases as long as everyone authorized is eligible. Make sure you have good friends if you want your Raid Shield to work. Rotten apples will spoil the bunch.
You, Player1, are on a team with Player2. You’ve played for 6 hours and have a Raid Shield charge of 6 hours. Player2 has played for 3 hours and has a Raid Shield charge of 3 hours. You sign off. After 10 minutes, the Raid Shield attempts to turn on for any base with a Tool Cupboard you’re authorized on. However, Player 2 raided a base 5 minutes before they signed off. Player2 now has an Aggression Penalty for 2 hours. The Raid Shield will turn on after 2 hours, but during that 2 hour period that Player2 is penalized, your shield will lose charge and there will only be 5 hours of Raid Shield charge left at the time when it turns on.
Using the previous example, let’s say Player2 never raids. Ten minutes after you sign off, your Raid Shield turns on. You have 6 hours of Raid Shield charge and Player2 has 3 hours of Raid Shield charge. If Player2 stays online, your shield will still turn on for 6 hours, but it will only remain active if Player2 does not get an Aggression Penalty. Player2 will continue to charge their Raid Shield and add to their existing 3 hours of charge even when the Raid Shield is on.
Using the previous example, you and Player2 both log off. You have 6 hours of Raid Shield charge and Player2 has 3 hours of Raid Shield charge. After 10 minutes, the Raid Shield for your base will turn on. One Raid Shield is being used, but both your charge and Player2’s charge are being used at the same time without any cumulative effect. After 3 hours Player2’s Raid Shield charge will be discharged, but the Raid Shield will continue to work because you have another 3 hours of Raid Shield charge. After 3 more hours, the Raid Shield will turn off because your Raid Shield charge is depleted.
