Scan, Lock-On, Quests

I hope all you Bumfuzzlers had a Merry Christmas and found some time to get some Rust in! 🙂 Santa brought some great new things for you! Here’s the scoop!

Proximity Scanner

Ever wondered who was snooping around your base? Well, now you can find out! Just setup a Proximity Scanner wherever you’d like and it’ll give you both live and recorded results on those nosy neighbors! Simply place a CCTV Camera, Targeting Computer and 1,000 High Quality Metal in a stash and bury it. For 15 meters in all directions, you’ll get notified when players enter and leave the scanner area and you’ll even be able to pull up logs to get information from when you were offline!

Here’s an example of what the scanner looks like. Anyone going in or out of that sphere will be recorded!

Lock-On Rockets

Oh yeah! Lock-on and let the rockets fly!

To use the lock-on functionality, get yourself some Smoke Rockets (required), ADS in on your victim, hold it for 3 seconds until it locks on, and whether it be a plane, SuperHeli, SuperBradley or even a bear, your launch is sure to do some damage! I’ve made sure Smoke Rockets are readily available out there so stay alert!

This is going to make the plane crash event a heck of a lock easier!

Elf Run Quest Adjustments

Some of you reported the Elf Run quest was challenging, but instead of lowering the difficulty of the Elves I raised the prize for the quest quite a bit. Why? You Bumfuzzler’s need a challenge! They are confined to an island after all so it is optional. If you’ve already finished this quest, you’re a bad Bumfuzzler Bumfuzzler! You can try again after a day if you’d like to go for the new rewards!

You’ll get the following items:

  • War Story Assault Rifle (Rare)
  • 3 Eviction Notice Satchel Charges (Super Rare)
  • 3 Snowy F1 Grenades (Rare)
  • Panda Smile Beenie (Super Rare)
  • Lawman Jacket (Rare)
  • Christmas Long T-Shirt (Uncommon)

 

 

P.S. – The other quests were a little light in the reward category. I admit I never really spent much time on them. Now I’ve made them slightly more enticing, but I’ll certainly work to improve them in the near future!

Christmas Gifts

Again, I hope you all had a wonderfully, Merry Christmas! A few days ago, I set up Christmas presents to spawn under the Christmas tree as well as stockings and such. I hope you all get a trusty old Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot, range model air rifle!

I’ve made some adjustments to the server that I thought you’d like to know about. We have a new quest, a redesign of The North Pole, some adjustments to car handling, fuel and raiding players who are new to the server.

Elf Run

Santa’s Helpers are running around with the batteries that weren’t included in Christmas presents (batteries not included lol) trying to help Santa get them to the right houses for all the young girls and boys out there. You’re just the Bumfuzzler to spoil Christmas for them by killing the elves and taking their batteries to complete a new quest called Elf Run. In exchange you’ll get the following 3 Skin Perks:

Type /q to choose the quest. You’ll find it under Loot. Enjoy!

The North Pole

The North Pole has been redesigned, but the same premise.

At night, the doors open automatically, and there by the fireplace, the Christmas tree glimmers with the possibility of loot. Nearly every box has a Skin Perk, but the boxes won’t be full each time. Each box refreshes its loot every hour or 6. Which box has goodies will greatly depend on the individual box timers and when someone was there last. Good luck!

I hope you show up at the right time. Either way, the elves are waiting for you to have Christmas dinner 🙂

New Player Raiding

I’ve noticed new players joining the server and getting raided immediately. Most of them leave shortly after. They don’t even have time to get a feel for the server and make it their new home and that stifles server growth. I’ve put in place a plugin that will prevent new players from being raided for their first 24 hours of game play on the server. However, if they raid someone all bets are off and their protection will end abruptly!

If you raid someone who is protected, it should give you a message and refund whatever you used – C4, Rockets, etc. If you want to check if an item of building is protected, look at the item or building and type /checknew

Player Challenges

The player challenge leaderboards should now be fixed so when you achieve greatness, you’ll get the designated kit associated with it. Type /pc to see the leaderboards and /kit to see the kits you could receive for each challenge. I’m in the process of revamping these kits to make them even more lucrative!

Furnaces & Fuel

It appears due to an update to No Fuel Requirements, a plugin that VIPs have access to which allows them to do without the requirement of fuel, was going beyond lights and working for furnaces and other fuel burning items. This was not the original intention. I’ve fixed this thanks to a heads up by DHJ Doge [GW]. Turns out a recent update to the plugin changed the configuration.

Refuel, Perk Kits, Run

Updates abound my good Bumfuzzlers! There are new skin perk kits, an exciting new SuperHeli event and Running Man changes! Read on!

Skin Perk Kits

A couple of you have been asking me to add more goodies to the shop and now that I’ve finished implementing the Skin Perks version 2.0 (180 in total!) it seems like a good time. You Bumfuzzlers have been scouring the country-side trying to get your hands on special perk goodies and you still can – they’re out there! – however, I’ve added 4 groupings of Skin Perks to the store based on your play style so you can get your hands on some of the rarer perks, but also support the Bumfuzzler Modtopia server at the same time!

Here they are!

Each one is tapered to the role you play. The Raider kit, high in building damage, will give you powerful tools for Raiding, Hunter, high in player/animal damage, will make you formidable on the battlefield, Gatherer, high in gather rates, will ensure you have the best tools in the land and Builder will give you the powerful Cool Swinger, a hammer that reduces required upgrade resources by 10%!

Each kit comes with 11 Skin Perks in all and can be used 2 times per wipe over the course of 2 wipe cycles!

Enjoy! And as always thank you all for all the support you show the server. All money from purchases go directly back into the server! So get over to the shop and choose one!

Heli Refuel

I’ve added a new plugin that I believe is going to be load of fun! After a set time, the SuperHeli will need to refuel and it will make a pit stop at the closest monument where it will land. For instance, it will land on top of the Launch Site’s main building. When it lands, several NPCs will jump out and protect the chopper, but if you are able to defeat those NPCs, the SuperHeli won’t take back off and it’s all yours!

FYI, this plugin is a great example of how donations and purchases from the Bumfuzzler.net shop are used to improve the server!

Running Man

Recently, it seems people have been ducking out on the Running Man event. Due to this I’ve changed it so that it nominates someone without warning! This should make it more sudden and alarming! Hopefully it’s a positive thing and adds to some surprising situations.

Absolute Sorter

If you’ve got OCD or just like to have your loot in order, you’re going to love this plugin. You can specify what a box is for and then easily, with the click of a button, dump only those items in that box! You can also have drop boxes so when you come in from gathering, simply accessing a box will dump all your content! Tremendous time saver for the truly organized! I would advise you take a look at the video below. It’s somewhat long-winded, but it’ll help you get the full potential out of this great addition!

Skin Perks

I’ve added 100 new Skin Perks for a total of 180 different Skin Perks! You should start finding them out there as you play. This batch are all clothing as we’ve already covered the weapons and tools. These items, for now until I balance them, will give you anywhere from 3% to 7% dodging damage ability. I personally like the potato head ski mask 🙂  One player found a sweet looking LR Skin Perk today! It was  a beauty! 🙂 Here are just a few of the many!

Instant Research

I’ve changed the research times back a little towards defaults to give the players with higher loyalty more benefits. For players just joining, it’ll take 10 seconds to research, for Legitimate and Veteran loyalty groups, it’ll drop down to 5 and then Allegiance and VIP loyalty groups instantly research!

Duelist

I’ve enabled Duels again for those of you who’d like to challenge a fellow Bumfuzzler to a beat down! Type /duel for more information and be ready to fight! If you see a giant round high wall stacked arena, that is in fact the very same place you’ll rumble!

Cupboard Messages

I’ve added a simple alert you’ll see when placing Tool Cupboards down. It’s mean to remind you that you need to put resources into the cabinet to prevent the decaying of your buildings. If you’re unsure of how to decay works, check out my post from the other day.

The North Pole

Santa is back with his little helpers up in the snow biome! There’s presents and boxes and wonderful things, but fear the elves! They aren’t too happy about you trying to take the toys they built from young children from across the world! You monster 🙂 I haven’t tested it thoroughly so let me know if you have issues.

Loot Adjustments

I’m still adjusting loot. Tonight I was working on the Bradley and Airdrops. It’s gotten better, but may still need some tweaking. I’ll await your feedback and go from there.

Decay, Decay, Rarity

Howdy Bumfuzzlers! I have an update for you sooner than expected, but nonetheless chock-full-of-goodnesses.

Building Decay

I couldn’t put off changing decay until the next wipe as planned due to some extraordinary building patterns I’ve noticed on the server. I have removed the No Decay plugin and have turned on decay using the default settings.

Here’s how it works:

First, the tool cupboard can now store resources, and these resources will be used to keep your base from decaying. You can think of this like a tax system, where the first section of blocks are ‘taxed’ at a certain rate to maintain their health, and the more and more blocks you add to your base the more expensive it gets.

  • 1-15 blocks = 10%
  • 15-40 blocks = 15%
  • 40-75 blocks = 20%
  • 75+ blocks = 33%

This means if you have a two by one you’ll have to pay 10% the cost of the base per 24 hours to maintain upkeep, which is peanuts. However, giant clan bases will need a very significant amount of resources to prevent them from decaying. The idea here is that you’ll need to be smart with your builds, because it’s not free forever.

Secondly, your base will decay from the outside in, so the very center of your base will be safest for longer.

  • Twig = 1hr
  • Wood = 2hr
  • Stone = 3hr
  • Metal = 5hr
  • Armored = 12hr

This means that if you have an entire base of stone and are not maintaining its upkeep, every 3 hours you’ll lose a ‘layer’.

Thirdly, if you are maintaining upkeep, your base will repair itself, very slowly, at the same rate that it would have decayed at. As long as you put the resources back in the TC, the hard to reach walls and sectioned off areas of your base will repair themselves.

Sorry to have to make this change mid-wipe, but circumstances forced my hand.

Skin Perk Rarity

It appeared no one was finding Skin Perks so I raised the percentages a bit. Here are the new settings for the rarity tiers:

  • Super Rare 7% (old 4%)
  • Rare 20% (old 13%)
  • Uncommon 33% (old 21%)
  • Common 40% (old 63%)

Raft Netting

Thanks to Maddawg for pointing out that the netting on rafts were too expensive. It originally required 15 rope, but I’ve changed it to 3 which is the default requirement for building netting.

Rafts

Yeah you heard me 🙂 Rafts. Ahoy yee Bumfuzzlers! 🙂 Make your own house boat and sail around the world like the Bumfuzzler you are! Type /raft for more information in game and watch this video for more information on the different features!

Here’s some information on what resources are required to build a raft:

  • Campfire – Amount of Wood needed to build : 100
  • Chairs – Amount of Chairs needed to build : 2
  • Net- Amount of Rope needed to build : 15
  • Raft- Amount of Wood needed to build : 50,000
  • Roof – Amount of Wood needed to build : 20,000
  • Sail – Amount of Wood needed to build : 30,000
  • Walls – Amount of Wood needed to build : 20,000

So you can build your house boat, go cruising with friends and even find some loot boxes bobbing in the ocean! Yes they do exist 🙂

Decay

With the new Tool Cupboard functionality and changes to decay, I’ll be turning decay back on next wipe. I wanted to give you all a heads up as it will require you to leave your tool cupboard accessible. I believe this add a new element to the server and because of the abundance of resources on the server, it shouldn’t be too hard to keep up. The new challenge for builders will be that you can’t seal off the cupboard as you’ll have to get to it to stock it up!

Turret Locks

Now you can lock your turrets and prevent others from fiddling with them! This privilege will be available to players at the Allegiance and VIP loyalty levels and can be activated by looking at a turret and typing /lockturret. You will need a code lock in your inventory, but that’s a small price to pay!

Building Restruction

Recently I’ve received a few complains about building spamming. This wouldn’t be as serious if not for the new changes where the tool cupboard emanates from foundations. To prevent this, I’ve added a new plugin that will limit the amount of building blocks (anything you build with the building plan) within a tool cupboard zone.

Right now I’ve limited it to 500 so no one gets screwed, but I will be dropping this down more aggressively to avoid spamming. Not that you will get warnings as you get closer to the limit, how many you have left – 150, 100, 50, 25 and 5. Please let me know if you find you’re getting warned when you shouldn’t.

UPDATE: Thanks for some help from Saintbob, I realized it was too low at 500. I’ve set it to 2,000 for now and will adjust it downwards as needed.

Skin Perk Stacking

For a workaround, to avoid the loss of Skin Perks when stacking, I’ve disabled the ability to stack skinned items. At least now you won’t lose anything, but of course it’ll mean you need slightly more inventory.

Player Challenges

MattieMajestic brought to my attention the fact that Player Challenge kits were no longer being awarded. Seems after a plugin update it stopped working. I reverted back and assigned the kits manually for now. Hopefully when the leaders switch hands it acts accordingly. I also noticed the challenges for Farmer and Swordsman aren’t working. I’ll try to address that soon.

We’ve got a couple of awesome updates for you Bumfuzzlers! Let’s get to it!

Plane Crash

From time to time, a low flying cargo plane will spawn. If you can hit it with a rocket launcher, it will crash into the ground and reward you with lots of goodies! If you hit it with 3 rockets it will explode in the air! I warn you though, it’s not as easy as it seems!

Skin Perks

I’ve greatly expanded the Skin Perks by adding 50+ weapons Perks falling under 3 different tiers!

During the last wipe, I made my first go at Skin Perks and you Bumfuzzlers seem to love it so I’ve expanded it in a big way. For those of you unaware, a Skin Perk is an item with a distinct skin that has special abilities such as:

  • Damage Animal: Increased ability to damage animals
  • Damage Building: Increased ability to damage buildings
  • Damage Entity: Increased ability to damage items such as Bradley and Helicopter
  • Damage Player: Increased ability to damage players
  • Dodge: Chance to avoid damage from players, animals, Bradley and Helicopter
  • Gather: Increased ability to gather more resources with tools
  • Repair: Decreased resources required to repair buildings
  • Upgrade: Decreased resources required to upgrade buildings

There are 3 tiers of Skin Perks:

  • Super Rare items spawn around 4% of the time.
    • Damage Animals, Players, Buildings & Entities: 2x damage
    • Dodge damage 7% of the time
    • Gather increased by 2x with tools
    • Resources required to repair and upgrade decreased by 10%
  • Rare items spawn around 13% of the time.
    • Damage Animals, Players, Buildings & Entities: 1.5x damage
    • Dodge damage 5% of the time
    • Gather increased by 1.5x with tools
    • Resources required to repair and upgrade decreased by 7.5%
  • Uncommon items spawn around 21% of the time.
    • Damage Animals, Players, Buildings & Entities: 1.25x damage
    • Dodge damage 3% of the time
    • Gather increased by 1.25x with tools
    • Resources required to repair and upgrade decreased by 5%
  • Common items spawn around 63% of the time.
    • No special properties or powers

Keep in mind Dodge items stack so having a full wardrobe of 5 Dodge laden items at 5% a piece will give you – you guessed it – a 25% chance of dodging damage!

NOTE: There is a known issue, if you stack two Skin Perks and then unstack them, you’ll look the perk from the one you unstack. I recommend for now, don’t stack Skin Perks! Thanks to DjRYFY for providing me with the exact steps to duplicate this!

Trump & Hillary

As of now, the issue has been fixed with assigning kits automatically when entering the Trump and Hillary zones! Enjoy gaining access immediately to goodies! 🙂

This was a fairly large patch and we have lots of plugins so let me know if something doesn’t work. I fully expect some aftermath, but let’s hope! 🙂 Have fun out there Bumfuzzlers!

Woohoo Bumfuzzlers! It’s a wipe! and a giant update that will surely be game changing!

We’ve got building 3.0! The Junkyard monument is in and hopefully spawned on the new map I chose for the wipe. I didn’t see it in the Rust:IO map. Also a new quarry monument! New water effects! and a hole bunch more! I have plans for this wipe which will take a day or so to put together 🙂 Can’t wait to post about it!
