Designs, Raids, Wipe Boosts

Always with the tweaks Bumfuzzlers! I’ve got a couple of adjustments that should gives you all some nifty new abilities, but also balance raiding and building a little bit while providing some fun towards the end of the wipe cycle! Read on!

Loot Scanning (Modtopia)

About a week or two ago I added the ability to scan the contents of supply drops, crates and barrels, but there was something missing – the CH47 locked crate.

Now you’ll have that ability, but due to that, I decided to switch around some level permissions. Here’s what we have now:

  • Level 8: Can scan the contents of a Supply Drop with Binoculars
  • Level 19: Can scan the contents of a CH47 locked crate
  • Level 27: Can scan the contents of crates and barrels

Seeing inside the CH47 crate can save tons of time! Great perk for level 19’ers!

Elevator Raiding (Modtopia)

Raiding bases equipped with an elevator (/newlift) poses certain challenges that are absent in other situations. This is because elevators are practically indestructible and that’s certainly important to understand for base designers and raiders alike.

To make it a little more fair for raiders, I’ve changed things around so destruction of an elevator’s foundation or floor underneath, means destruction of the elevator itself. This makes it fair for both sides of the equation.

Thanks [F11]Kreeperlink for the feedback

Foundation Health (Modtopia)

It seems based on discussion and polling that people share the opinion that foundation wiping mostly allows raiders to escape having to account for the builder’s design of the base. Instead of dealing with turrets, shotgun traps, confusing doors and the like, all you have to do is save up your rockets and blast your way through the underbelly to create instability in the structure. This defeats the purpose of the builder’s trouble and it’s a questionable tactic.

To counter foundation wiping, I’ve increased all foundation blocks by 50% health.

That means foundation health will be as follows:

  • Twig Foundation: was 10, now 15
  • Wood Foundation: was 250, now 375
  • Stone Foundation: was 500, now 750
  • Sheet Metal Foundation: was 1,000, now 1,500
  • Armor Foundation: was 2,000, now 3,000

I don’t want to discourage raiding, but I do want players to be subject to the effort and ingenuity of the builder. What’s the point of people going through the trouble to making a base that’s hard to raid if people just plow through the foundation with rockets? It doesn’t seem balanced.

Let’s see how this works and if it doesn’t, it can be changed back. I’m looking to you Bumfuzzlers to provide me with some good feedback!

End of Wipe Boost (Modtopia)

For a long time I’ve seen player counts drop the last days of raid cycles. This is mostly because players who get raided the 3rd week of the cycle feel they don’t have time to get supplies to build or those who would raid might not have people to raid. Obviously we’d rather go out with a blast! I’m thinking this next wipe cycle we’ll try something different.

On the Tuesday night before the Thursday wipe (in this next wipe’s case, December 6th), I’ll make available 2 kits with cool downs for every 12 hours – one for the raider and one for the builder. You can obviously take both kits, but it’s doubtful with such little time, you’ll be able play both roles.

The kits might look something like this:

Raid to Wipe kit:

  • 50 rockets
  • 50 satchels
  • 25 timed explosives
  • 1 rocket launcher
  • 5 supply drops

Build to Wipe kit:

  • 60k wood
  • 50k stone
  • 40k metal frags
  • 30k high quality metal
  • 8 turrets
  • 16 shotgun traps
  • 25 bear traps
  • 25 land mines
  • 2k handmade shells
  • 2k 556 ammo
  • 5 supply drops

I’ll adjust the menu screen and put some recurring text to let people know it’s coming so they don’t miss the chance. I hope this adds an elevated element to the game for a couple days and I’m eager to see what players do with the resources.

Base Notables (Modtopia)

I flew around a bit over the past week or two and saw a couple of bases (sorry if I missed yours – please point yours out to me next time) that were worthy of mention. Here’s a couple of shots from the outside of those bases with a couple comments!

c0de created this very scenic base well placed on top of a mountainous area near the ocean. I never went back to see if it lasted, but it was really nice location choice!

[F11]Sin and probably a couple others created this silo type base. I enjoyed reading the memes 🙂

Before you get past the blinding lights you can nailed by all the turrets within the jail cell walls. I liked the idea! Nice work Graceful Mess! I did not put that bear there. It just so happened to be hanging out 🙂

Another one by Graceful Mess caught my eye. This one looks so Mad Max! 🙂 The car inside the walls among the pumpkins was a nice touch 🙂

Pumpy Boi gets an honorable mention with this high security lock down base!

The first thing I noticed was the careful placement of door skins in Questionable Punch‘s base. It looks tight 🙂

R3mix just wants to be left in peace. His base is his home away from home. I like the design and last I checked it’s one of the last bases still intact!

Not sure what Rumguzzler was going for here, but it reminds me of the Redeemer Statue in Rio!

This was one of my favorites, but I’m sorry to say I didn’t get a good picture of it. Rumguzzler’s boat house was perfectly decorated inside and had a really nice parking space for a boat with a dock to go along with it.

Some great stuff from everyone. Sorry if I left anyone out, but you can tell me about your base next wipe and I’ll post it!

There we have it folks. Tomorrow the wipe comes and with it a new beginning for everyone. Which Bumfuzzlers are going to step it up this wipe? Can any base survive the entire cycle? Is someone going to be made to eat Bumfuzzler? Any revenge coming to someone in particular? 🙂 We’ll see! Note that the wipe will happen as soon as Facepunch releases their patch. This is typically between 1 and 7pm EST.

Leveling, Resources, Bump

Leveling, Resources, Bump

Bumfuzzlers! I’ve got a short post that should be a big change, mostly for newer players and hopefully in turn for existing players as I believe it’ll help satisfy new joiners who expect a higher resource gain. At the same time, loyal Bumfuzzlers also see a slight bump too! Check it out.

Z Level Resources (Modtopia)

For a long time, I’ve had resource gain set low at the start and high at the end. The idea was to reward loyalty and players sticking around. Unfortunately, some players may never get the chance to be loyal Bumfuzzlers because they’re unhappy with the resource yield and they leave.

For instance, we have resource levels from level 1 to level 50. Starting out players are at level 1 getting about 12 wood per hit and at the level 50, they get 72. Then, players get 22 stone at level 1 and 157 at level 50. That’s an 83% increase for wood and an 86% increase for stone. That’s awesome gains and a massive boost for loyal Bumfuzzlers. Unfortunately, for new players,  at the start, they might expect 2-3 times the wood and stone per hit and would be pleasantly surprised with, but not expecting, an increase over time.

  • Level 1: 12 wood, 22 stone
  • Level 50: 72 wood, 157 stone
  • 83% increase for wood
  • 86% increase for stone

So I did some testing and I did some math (hopefully it’s right haha) and I believe I figured out a way to satisfy both new players and loyal Bumfuzzlers.

The levels (1-50) haven’t changed, but everyone starts off with about 3 times the resources. As levels increase, players gain increases at a slower rate, but by level 50, they’ll wind up with slightly more resource gain than they had before.

For instance, after the changes I’ve just made one hit for wood at level 1 to be 31 (increased from 12) and one hit for stone is 68 (increased from 22). At the high end at level 50 a hit of wood is 75 (increased from 72) and a hit of stone is 164 (increased from 157).

  • Level 1: 31 wood, 68 stone
  • Level 50: 75 wood, 164 stone
  • 60% increase for wood at the start
  • 59% increase for stone at the start

For the loyal Bumfuzzlers at level 50 they also get a slight bump.

  • Level 50: 75 wood (increased from 72)
  • Level 50: 164 stone (increased from 157)
  • 4% increase

Oh and by the way, at night instead of 3 times the resources, the base multiplier is 4, plus your levels go up twice as fast! 🙂

So, if my math is right I expect increases in a few areas. Give me feedback Bumfuzzlers! As always it’s critical to making sure the server runs at its best! It’s an evolution of sorts based on many factors! Have fun!

Money, Quests, Forums

After some testing, I’ve adjusted some of the recent changes regarding resources, fixed a couple things, added a couple things and I’m ready to add a couple more options come the next wipe, but shhh until then 🙂

Resources

Truth was, it was all about the Chainsaw, Charcoal and Sulfur anyway, but I over compensated in my last update. Sorry about that.  So, as per the previous post, here’s what I changed:

  • Wood consumption is back to it’s original setting of 10.
  • Charcoal production will remain at a 1 to 1 ratio with 35% loss for now
  • I recently set all the metals to 3.5, but this was too high, but I’ve adjusted those:
    • Metal Ore: originally 1.5, now set to 2.0
    • Sulfur Ore: originally 1.0, now set to 3.0
    • High Quality Metal Ore: originally 3.5, now set to 4.0
  • The Chainsaw will now give 80% of the wood it’d normally get. This is still 400-500 more than the best ax.

These changes related only to Modtopia.

Chainsaw Zlevels

Well, the darn buzzer gone and crazied up the Zlevels. It appears if you use a chainsaw you can level up really quick. Well, I don’t have a way to slow it down so for right now, the chainsaw will simply not give you any new levels to your wood cutting. It will of course allow you to gather wood as usual, you just won’t level up. This relates only to Modtopia.

Special thanks to Saintbob for pointing out this issue.

Bumfuzzler Forums

I’ve had a few people ask me to create a forum so I tossed one up real quick. It needs some work, but should be functional.  Drop by, post and say hi or whatever you’d like! As long as you register for the website you should be able to access and post in the forums. You can access the forums here.

Thanks to ATaXiA for suggesting this recently and the others in the past who did.

SuperHeli Timing

Due to some recent changes, I now have the ability to set a minimum and maximum spawn time for the SuperHeli.  Now it should absolutely come out less often so that the torture is far less than usual lol I have heard the screams and do pay attention! Now the SuperHeli will appear anywhere between 2.6 and 8 hours. So it could come out at 3 hours or 6 hours, it’ll be randomized. This relates only to Modtopia as Vanillatopia is at defaults.

Furnace Splitter

Unfortunately, the plugin has gone a little weird. Placing 1,000 wood and 1,000 high quality metal ore in the furnace would give you 3 stacks of high quality metal ore – 1,334, 333, 333 and 1,000 wood so you’d get an extra 1,000 high quality metal ore. Obviously that’s not good.

I disabled the plugin on both Modtopia and Vanillatopia and will update it when there’s a fix available.

Economics

You’ll notice at the bottom left of your screen that you’ll have a balance of money. I’m playing around with economics, but haven’t setup anything yet for players to buy with the money. For now, joiners should get $1,000 bucks, with a $500 one-time reward and then $5 for every 5 minutes of gameplay.

I’m going to be testing the idea of using money for buying various items in a store so that players are rewarded for their loyalty in a new way. I’m not sure if it will be ready for the next wipe, but I’ll try my best. Regardless I will have goodies the next time wipe comes around 🙂 This applies only to Modtopia.

Quests

I’ve added 5 more quests for your adventurer pleasure:

  • Top Secret – A top secret military installation is near, you need the pictures of it.
  • Teddy Snuggle – You don’t sleep well these days, find pookie bears for your bed.
  • Read the News – Get Wall Street Journals and be learned about the world.
  • SuperHeli Plans – Find research papers and find flaws in SuperHeli design.
  • Stay Awake – Gas Station attendants work long hours, use sticks to keep open eyes.

All of these quests, for now are rewarding with currency.

Also, there were issues with two quests – Stuck on you, where you had to gather bottles of glue and Blood Transfusion where you had to gathering bags of blood. Both of those quests should now be fixed. Previously you were unable to select them.

When in game, type /q for the quest menu. You’ll find these new quests under the Loot category. All of the items in the quests can be found from NPCs, but Pookie Bears can be found anywhere! This applies only to Modtopia.

You Bumfuzzlers have a great time. Please keep providing feedback. You all are a massive help to me and really make it a whole lot easier to manage things.

Treasure, Resources, RustNET

Treasure, Resources, RustNET

Hola Bumfuzzlers! I’ve made a few changes – both to existing plugins and resource handling in hopes of balancing game play a bit in light of recent changes. Things have changed for instance, with the Chainsaw. Read on for server changes!

Dangerous Treasures

On Modtopia, we’re running the dangerous treasures plugin – a fun event that spawns a box in a protected sphere that vanishes after some time. Recently, I’ve noticed the loot can sometimes be more than the Bradley and Chopper, so I’ve slightly reduced the loot to even it out a bit more. For instance, I’ve removed the targeting computer from the loot list so cut down on the turrets out there. I’ve also set the plugin to broadcast availability of unlooted treasure every 3 minutes to make sure no one misses the goodies and I’ve increased the time it takes to start the event to make it more valuable.

Resource Changes

On Modtopia, this has been coming for some time as I think it’s crazy for players to have 100 rockets 2 days after a wipe. Now with the Chainsaw, I felt like I had to make some changes because massive amounts of wood allow for massive amounts of charcoal and that fuels all the boom booms. So, I hope the changes I’ve made will slow things down just a little and balance things out somewhat. As we know, it’s an ever changing landscape so I’ll constantly evaluate things.

  • I’ve increased charcoal loss from burning wood from 25-35%. This means less charcoal production.
  • I’ve reduced cook time for raw deer from 35 to 4. I have no idea why it was set so high.
  • I’ve reduced cook time for all other meat from 5 to 4 to speed that up just a little.
  • I’ve increased cook time for sulfur, metal ore, high quality metal ore and crude oil from 2 > 3.5 to increase the smelt time just a tad.
  • Lastly I’ve increased wood consumption from 10 > 15. When burning wood you’ll use about 50% more.

Something to keep in mind is that this change may make night slightly more important as there are night bonuses for gathering. It will also make the Chainsaw more popular and hunting for crude oil and animal fat could become more important also.

It’s not a huge change, but I hope this get us closer to the intended results. I’m looking to have less early raids, potentially more meaningful raids overall, to reduce foundation wipe raids and to make any explosive that much more valuable. Please provide me with feedback.

Skinbox

Thanks to all the Bumfuzzlers who reported that Skinbox isn’t working. I’m unfortunately aware of it. I’ve been trying to track down the reason for the problem and I’ve had no success – SO FAR. I will fix it. It seems it could be related to a Rust file that could be damaged in my installation on the server which means next wipe, I’ll have to do a complete reinstall of the entire server. I try not to do this since it requires both time and precision and my time as late is more limited than usual. I’d rather not do that unless I have to. At the same time, I need to get this resolved. If I take this route, I may perform the next wipe, on 3/15 much later at night so I have time.

Automatic Authorization

I had this plugin disabled for a bit since I had trouble with it, but it’s back online. This means adding someone as a friend will automatically give them access to your doors and turrets. Please mind the following commands to ensure you don’t get in trouble with ‘friends’ 🙂

  • /autoauth clan – Add your clans mates to the auth list
  • /autoauth friends – Add your friends to the auth list
  • /autoauth autoclan – Toggles automatic authorization for clan members when placing objects
  • /autoauth autofriends – Toggles automatic authorization for friends when placing objects

Rust NET

There’s been a bunch of updates to Rust NET which is the plugin interface for remote turrets, security cameras and automatic searchlights. I’ve updated the plugin on both Modtopia and Vanillatopia. Take a look at the video below.

That’s about it for now. Please give me feedback on the changes and on anything else. It’s critical for me to get your feedback about issues or suggestions. Meanwhile, please have fun Bumfuzzlers!
