Phew! Got a lot of stuff for you Bumfuzzlers! Bunch of fixes to a few situations on Modtopia thanks to some great feedback and also some changes I think you’ll all like! Especially you big game hunters 🙂 For everyone else, Skin Perks is back to full strength! Read on!

Various Improvements

  • Code lock auto placement to boxes, doors, lockers, cupboards now works. It was a permission issue due to recent loyalty level changes (/code) – thanks CannonFodder!
  • Added ability to keep loot logs, but after a few players got kicked, I suspected it and disabled it!
  • Replaced Tempered Steel hatchet and Muddy Converse boot skins in the Hunter kit and in the Loot. They were removed from the Steam workshop. They should now work as Skin Perks with proper dodge and upgrade bonuses – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Spaz 12 Shotgun was added to the hunter kit for player challenges (/pc) – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Christmas items added to Christmas presents and stockings such as trees, garland, etc. – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Jason Vorhees NPC now gives Halloween related items so he can be more spooky! – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Skin Perks should now work properly. For some reason only a few were, but now all 100+ of them should – Thanks ATaXiA!
  • Handyman was thought to repair without resources. I verified it does in fact use resources and enabled it again (/handyman) – Thanks MrNiceGuy!
  • Explosive distance kills will no longer be recorded in Player Challenges (/pc) – Thanks ATaXiA!

Outstanding Issues

  • Walking on a moving drawbridge will result in getting kicked due to a fly hack violation. The plugin author is aware and says he’ll look into it (/bridge.help) This also effects Vanillatopia – Thanks jarbar113 & ATaXia!
  • You can accidentally remove tuna can lamp from elevator and break it. Plugin author believes it’s due to a plugin conflict so I’m trying to track it down. Best advise, don’t use the elevator with your hammer out. If it’s not out, you won’t get the open to remove the tuna lamp (/newlift /liftaid) – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • The SuperHeli sometimes comes out at the same time as Chinooks. It’s believed the issue may be related to skipping night – Thanks ATaXia!

New Player Challenges

Along with the fixes to explosive distance kills, we now have 3 more titles – Tank Killer, Heli Hunter and Bot Hunter.

  • APC Kills [TankHunter] – most Bradley kills
  • Helicopter Kills [HeliHunter] – most SuperHeli kills
  • NPC Kills [BotHunter] – Most Bot/NPC kills

Check Player Challenges (/pc) to see who the leaders are! Each title will get you a kit (/kit) that will give you some goodies! I expect I’ll be updating the kits for challenges over the next couple weeks. I think they can be better, but we’ll see.

Awesome feedback and suggestions everyone! I truly appreciate all the Bumfuzzling going on. It really helps ensure the server runs well and everyone has fun!

Hey Bumfuzzlers, some truly awesome updates today! I know you Bumfuzzlers are going to love it! We’ve got a ton of changes and fixes and we’re going to have a wipe tonight, but the star of this update is going to be elevators. Yes, that’s right I said elevators 🙂 Read on!

Various Modtopia Fixes

  • Bunny Ranch now gives access to the Bunny Ranch kit – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • Recycle is now working for levels 22, 23 and 24 – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • Teleport back (/tpb) function (part of Warpmaster package) now works – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • Christmas presents should no longer be empty when spawning – Thanks CannonFodder!
  • Christmas presents message/jingle now appears/plays – Thanks Ataxia!
  • Crosshair images replaced, no more errors – Thanks Ataxia!

Notable Modtopia Changes

  • Several people would like to see more Jason! Jason Vorhees is now 200% less scarce
  • The SuperHeli and CH47 were spawning at the same time.
    • Now only one will spawn at a time
    • CH47 spawns between 2 hours and 2 1/2 hours
    • SuperHeli spawns between 2 1/2 hours and 8 hours – Thanks Ataxia!
  • Lusty Map going black at times
    • After the 4:30am EST restart, LustyMap will be reset twice to make sure it’s not black
    • Process may kick players with Packet Flooding error, just rejoin
  • Plugins aren’t loaded after a restart
    • After the 4:30am EST restart, all plugins will reload to make sure they’re loaded
  • Trade cooldown was lowered from 5 minutes to 1 minute – thanks CannonFodder!

Elevators

Modtopia and Vanillatopia players are going to love this update! The Elevators are truly awesome! I can’t say enough how much fun they are going to be for everyone and how much they will change the way you build bases. Hatches and stairs will now be more preference than requirement as you can build elevators up to 10 stories! (That’s the limit I set which I’m sure is good based on stability) Here’s some information about them:

  • You can build up to 10 stories
  • You can have 1 floor at every level
  • You can create elevators on foundations and floors
  • The elevator runs on fuel
  • You can have up to 2 elevators
  • You can share them with friends, clanmates or the public
  • Individual floors can be accessible by friends, clanmates, public, hidden, etc.

Here’s a video and a quick and dirty explanation of how you’ll create an elevator and generally operate it.

  1. Look at a foundation or floor and type /newlift
  2. You’ll get a menu (explained below)
  3. Put fuel in the tuna lamp to power it

The menu you get when using /newlift is going to present to you the following:

  • How many stories will the elevator be?
  • At which floors should doors be placed?
  • What will it cost you to build it?
    • Stories will require wood and metal fragments
    • Each door will require gears (not shown here)

After the elevator is built, using the Activate Key on the tuna lamp gives you the menu below

This menu allows you to

  • Floor # – Door- : Add/remove doors from your elevator shaft
  • Floor OnHold: Change how long the elevator will hang around
  • Move Speed: Change move speed
  • Lighting: Change lighting (off/always on/dynamic – comes on when you enter)
  • Operating Panel: Access the panel that is inside the elevator
  • Pull down lift: Allows you to destroy the elevator in total
  • Door Skin: Change the skin of the door (seems a little buggy)
  • Floor Sharing Options: Change who can access each floor
  • Share Mode: Change who can access the elevator
  • Power State: Absolutely unsure lol
  • Idle Close: How long does it take the door to close on it’s own

Accessing the Floor Sharing Options within this menu will give you the menu below. This menu gives you the ability to change the access to each of the floors individually.

Lastly, when accessing the panel inside the elevator, you’ll get this menu

  • Numbers when selected go to that floor
  • On the right side:
    • Gives you tuna lamp menu
    • Opens fuel storage
    • Unsure what this does lol
    • Closes door
    • Opens door

This is completely new so I expect some issues to creep up. In fact, I know of some things that could easily be used as exploits that I’m hoping are addressed soon. I didn’t feel like waiting until it got perfected because I saw the massive impact this plugin would make. That means, please as always, report to me the things you find with it.

Triangles, Buoyancy, Chinook

Big update this past Thursday! Got lots of new toys for all you Bumfuzzlers! We’ve got everything from motor boats, to a new Chinook event, to triangle walls and more! Here’s a quick overview of what’s new in Rust!

Motor Boats

They call them row boats, but that doesn’t make any Bumfuzzler sense to me. They have an outboard motor and speed around in the water! Ain’t no oars in sight! lol

You’ll find somewhere around 48 spawned around the map. Make sure you fuel them up, push them into reasonably deep water and sit in the seat closest to the motor. Oh! And make sure to start the engine!

Check them out! And don’t forget, with the fishing plugin we have on Modtopia you can use /castfishingpole to fish 🙂

Also, now that you can skip around on your new high speed aquatic vehicle, you can get to the loot piles out in the ocean!

Buoyancy

As they were working with making boats float, it appears making bodies float was just as easy so now… bodies float! 🙂 It’s a good addition for those of us who enjoy realism.

Chinook Event

This thing rocks! 🙂 It’s filled with scientists, flying bullets and special cargo!

The cargo has a special lock on it that will take some time to open so you’ll have to defend it against other players. It’s said damaging the laptop will simply slow it down so best not to do that!

Water Impacts

Now bullets have the proper reaction when shot into the water. It looks really nice!

The Forest

The foliage is looking quite awesome with the changes!

 

New Map

Personally, I love using LustyMap (key m or /map – only available on Modtopia) but the game map has gotten some great improvements! There’s so much more detail now and you can really see the topography of the land. I do wish you could fully zoom out, but it’s still nice. It shows the crate for the Chinook event real clearly on the map. I’m expecting an update to LustyMap to do the same.

Triangular Walls

Now more weird looking roofs now that we have triangle walls. I wonder what else people will use them for?!? Guess we’ll have to see 🙂

Tons of Balances

Here’s a quick list of some of the changes:

  • The AK47 now has increased recoil and a slightly more complicated recoil pattern during the initial burst.
  • The AK47 now has less accurate firing from the hip due to an increased aimcone value for hipfire.
  • Semi Automatic Pistol now has a HQM cost of 4 (was 8)
  • Semi Automatic Rifle now has a HQM cost of 4 (was 0)
  • All SMGs cost half the HQM they used to (including mp5)
  • Heavy Plate Armor pieces are half price
  • T-Shirt costs 20 scrap to research (was 75)
  • Longsleeve shirt costs 20 scrap to research (was 75)
  • Longsword crafting cost was halved
  • Hide armor leather costs halved
  • Bolt action rifle cost reduced significantly
  • BAR more damage
  • Heavy Plate less nerf
  • Shirt/longshirt more radiation protection
  • HV rockets deal 1/4 rocket damage
  • HV Rockets cost 1/4 what basic rockets cost
  • Rocket launcher cost reduced

Gestures, Oak, Floaters

There’s a bunch of things in the Rust pipeline I wanted to make sure you Bumfuzzlers knew about. Here’s a quick rundown of some goodies coming our way!

Floaters

Finally, players won’t be able to run out into the ocean to deny attackers loot. In the coming update, bodies float in the water and will even travel down streams with the flow of the water! Very nice update to enhance the realism!

Gestures

Finally gestures seem to be closer to reality with this video posted on Twitter by one of the Rust developers. Check out the video below to see the player wave hello, give a thumbs up/down, clap, surrender, give an ok sign and even point! This is really awesome!

Motor Boats

The motor boats that we’ll see in the next patch coming on April 5th now has some updated looks as it’s been polished and textured. It now has storage and requires fuel to run.

This water craft won’t be craftable and is said to disappear after about an hour – presumably if it’s not used. You can find it spawning on beaches and near lighthouses. Should be a nice addition.

Bullet Impact

Apparently now bullets will kick up the surface of water properly, but at the moment, at least in the staging branch, it just works on the ocean. I assume this is coming to streams soon.

Chinook

The Chinook is coming in this next patch is seems! It’ll be awesome to have a new event. What’s awesome is that they seem to have made it somewhat intelligent and it’s said they will be updating the Helicopter with that same intelligent AI in the future!

Scientists

They’ve been tweaking things a bit and it seems there is now a delay between sighting players and shooting at players. Also, they should be spawning at junk piles by default.

Skin Loading Fixes

I have had nothing but issues with plugins that use skins for roughly a month. It affected the loading of Skins for players and plugins like SkinBox (allows you to change skins of items /skinbox), SkinLoot (spawns in various skins for SkinPerks), SkinPerks (gives special powers to skins – “still broken it seems :'(” ), PlayersSkins (allows players to set default skins for items) and I believe even LustyMap (the map shown using key M and in upper left).

Apparently this last Thursday they’ve made some updates which have allows many of the plugins to work again. I’ll be tweaking all of this stuff soon and posting separately about it, but I’m hoping to see the server getting back to normal soon!

Oak Trees

The Rust landscape should get a great makeover soon with some new trees. In the next patch we’ll see Oak trees of all variations of leafy to bare, to dead.

In the future we’re going to see birch and beach trees too! You can see a pic of them below.

They’ve made some really nice graphical improvements over the recent months. I’m very impressed from where it’s come.

Hair Styles

Facepunch wants to ensure we get an assortment of player look and feel. They’re going to be adding shaved heads with larger beards, short afro’ish hairdos and even ginger setups!

I’ll keep you Bumfuzzlers updated as I have more news about upcoming changes.

Heya Bumfuzzlers, got some updates for Modtopia and the forums! Check em out!

Jason Voorhees

There is a super powerful NPC roaming the map who happens to sport a hockey mask and a machete! (Well, and a shotgun, 1000 health, ya know) Be careful cause he’s a beast, but of course he gives you some nice rewards too! Thanks to Strelok for the idea and soundklown for feedback!

Attachments

I’ve added the ability to attach files in the forums just in case there’s a need for such things! Of course you can easily post pictures and such by just pasting them into the body of your post, but hey, more options never hurt no one 🙂

Plugins

That very first ‘out of alpha’ Rust release has wreaked havoc on various plugins, especially plugins that relate to skins and graphics. I really hope they fix things soon.

I had disabled many plugins in order to try to track down the causes and had many of them disabled until this morning. I’ve just enabled every plugin I could.

I was able to get Skinbox to work, but it appears there are still issues with PlayerSkins (allows setting default item skins), SkinLoot (spawns special skins in the world), SkinPerks (gives items special powers) and Lustymap (provides a detailed map).  I decided to simply disable these plugins, unfortunately, for now.

I’m hoping that next Thursday, when we wipe, the patch will address these things. It appears like many are having the issues.

Next Wipe

Our next wipe for Modtopia and Vanillatopia will be on Thursday April 5th. It seems really long because this March had 5 Thursdays! I have a feeling this next update will be a big one though as we’re going to see the emergence of the Chinook event and possibly some other big updates. Again, hopefully some issues are fixed so things can get back to normal with our beloved plugins!

Patch and wipe time Bumfuzzlers! The map and blueprints were wiped and you can thank WRecKLeSS for the choice of map this time around. Very nice job choosing the venue! And there’s a bunch to talk about! We’ve got Chainsaws, a new shotgun, chinook previews, new incendiary shells, a bunch of changes and grief protection! Looky here!

Chainsaw

It’s in! And it’s great for collecting wood for sure! Take a gander!

Pop in some low grade fuel and right mouse to start it up.  It appears it’ll take a few tries since it has a 40% success rate of starting, but once it’s going it destroys trees and people, but that’s about it. People will hear you using it for sure. Shame they didn’t make it cut down wood structures. I mean, that doesn’t make sense. It’s a chainsaw!

SPAS-12

Wow! I didn’t see this coming! Rust meets Modern Warfare 2 lol Take a look at this bestiality!

You can’t craft it which means by default it’ll only be in the airdrops and Bradley or Helicopter crates. I’ll have to adjust the loot tables to ensure its in there so it might not be immediately. It’s semi-automatic and great for close quarters!

CH47 Chinook

No it’s not in just yet, but you can get more looks at it below.

They are also creating a new crate specifically for the chinook event

Nailgun Balance

They adjusted the nailgun so it’s a little easier to use by increasing the fire rate a bit.

Incendiary Shells (aka Dragon’s Breath)

These are going to look awesome in a gunfight at night! Take a look!

They contain much larger projectiles, making it easier to hit your target as well as producing a magnesium flame on contact, slowing movement and dealing damage over time. That’s some serious benefits!

Oak Trees & Bushes

They aren’t in there yet, but take a look at what’s coming most likely in the next patch.

Here are the new bushes. Apparently they’re native to North America and are called the Glaucous Willow and the Spicebush! They’re tall enough to use for cover.

Here are the oak trees. There’s going to be leafy and dead varieties.

Cupboard Grief Protection

Now, if your cupboard is destroyed and it has resources in it, your base will use part or all of those resources to purchase up to 24 hours of decay protection on all building blocks that are currently connected to the building. This requires resources to be in the cupboard, so make sure to put a code lock on it. Seems better than being cupboard raided!

Water Reflections

They’ve added some major glare to the water which I’ve already had some of you complain about. If you want to turn it off, change the world reflections setting in your options.

Repair Reduction

Repairs now will cost 20% of the item cost instead of 50% and of course the repair bench no longer requires wood to craft!

Just making sure you’re getting your regular feeding of updates now that updates aren’t actually being updated-ly 🙂 The folks at Facepunch are still working on the game, but of course as I mentioned, now that they’re out of early access, they’ll be releasing only one patch per month (Thursday March 1st). That doesn’t mean we don’t know what they’re up to! Here’s a list of some items they’ve been working on recently.

Grief Protection

It appears players would sometimes find a cabinet, destroy it and then let the decay process finish off the rest of the owner’s base. Apparently Facepunch is building in a process to make it so that destroying the cupboard in this situation will result in an automatic 24 hour protection.

This seems a little weird to me though since it probably should be based on how many resources are in the cupboard to being with. For instance, maybe instead of 24 hour protection, it should be for ‘x’ times the pre-existing time, but that’s Bumfuzzlered too.

Let’s see how it turns out. My guess is they’ll come out with a fix for the fix lol

Item Manipulation

Finally we can now pick up and repair those forgotten items like beds, signs, picture frames, mailboxes and more.

Sometimes Rust players want to play home decorator and rearrange furniture! I mean, if it’s yours and it’s in your house why wouldn’t you be able to move it? Sometimes you realize the bed would work better across from the door with a purty painting over the headboard! Feng shui can make all the difference.

Chinook

It’s unclear if the Chinook will make it into this month’s patch. I have a feeling it won’t, but hey, we can hope! Apparently testing is ongoing and it looks really sweet!

From what I’ve heard so far, the Chinook is part of a new event where it will hover over a given area for a certain amount of time, drop crates and potentially other goodies and if someone wants it, they’ll have to hold down the area.

Great idea! I’m also very interested in seeing what the mod community does with it!

Other WIPs

They’re apparently working on foliage shadows and they’ve set the new world reflections setting to 2 by default. This is the max yet it’s suggested it’ll improve performance. Anything that does that obviously is goodly.

They are working on new bushes and trees like birch and oak trees which should be nice.

Also, the chainsaw is still being worked on in terms of sounds and animation. This is going to be an interesting addition. I’m very curious what it will do for resource gathering. Seems to me gathering wood may be really easy, but other players will hear you for sure.

On Thursday, this will be the first monthly patch since Rust has left early access. I’m thinking it will be interesting. Will it be a larger patch than usual? Will it be more stable? Will it be more polished and complete?

I’m rooting for Facepunch to get it right with lots of goodies and less buggy releases.

Thursday, when the patch drops we’ll be wiping the map and blueprints so get ready to make a fresh start!

Chinook, Bushes, Chainsaw

While Facepunch has left early access and patches will be reduced to once per month (on 1st Thursday of each month) they are still making changes to the code in preparation for that patch so we can know what they have upcoming! So, Bumfuzzlers, let’s take a look at some of the things they’re working on! Keep in mind I can’t promise all these items will be in the next patch, but they are currently working on them.

  • Spotlights will now require Building Privileges
  • Bandages and syringes have info panels
  • Repair benches no longer require wood to build
  • Repairing now costs 20% of items full cost instead of 50%
  • New graphic setting for world reflections improves look
  • Chinook Airdrop Event is in the works
  • AI Improvements, how they interact and where they spawn
  • New bushes added, willow and spice color variances
  • Chainsaw fully textured and animated to be added
  • No-Recoil scripts are officially declared cheats. You’ve been warned!

All in all, it appears they are continuing work on the game and are prepared to make some pretty epic additions like the Chinook event and the Chainsaw! It’s going to be awesome to find someone with a wood base and cut down their door like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre! 🙂
