Mazzini, Meteors, Signals

Hey Bumfuzzlers! I’ve got some server tweaks for you for both Modtopia and Vanillatopia. I’ve listened to feedback from a lot of you and peppered that with some things I noticed to hopefully make the servers work a little better. Check it out!

Custom Map (Vanillatopia)

I’ve loaded a custom 3k map called Mazzini Islands over at Vanillatopia and it’s pretty interesting. It really gives Rust a totally different feel and makes Rust feel newer since you don’t really know what to expect. There are lots of islands and things seem spread out a bit more. If you’re up for some good old fashioned vanilla Rust, go try it out.

I’m toying with the idea of putting it up on Modtopia in November. Let me know what you think.

Animal Density (Vanillatopia)

I’ve gone ahead and raised the animal density on Vanillatopia to be the same as Modtopia. Now there’s 33% more bears, chickens, etc. It seemed they were a little scarce out there and without animals, surely Rust peoples will die 🙁

In-Game Store (Modtopia)

There were a couple of items that seemed out of alignment so I touched them up. It’s important that the Pasta Salad is priced appropriately!

  • Creedence 2x damage crossbow changed from 4 to 6 RP
  • Armored Door changed from a quantity of 3 to 1
  • Armored Double Door changed from a quantity of 3 to 1
  • Ladder Hatch changed from a quantity of 3 to 1

Zambie Hordes (Modtopia)

I lowered the zambie count a few weeks back, but now it seems like there just ain’t enough of those undeaders. I increased the amount of hordes from 12 to 15. That should add a little more excitement. Hope they scare you 🙂

Loot (Modtopia)

I’ll be tweaking the loot every so often. My goal is to find a good balance between vanilla and modded so that you have to grind a little, but it’s not overwhelmingly boring and repetitive.

  • Code Locked Crate bumped number of items from 6 to 8, blueprints from 1 to 2
  • Elite Crate bumped the number of items from 2 to 4
  • Mine Crate bumped the number of items from 1 to 2
  • Mine Cart bumped the number of items from 1 to 2

Added the following blueprints to barrels:

  • small oil refinery
  • spinner wheel
  • reactive target
  • binoculars
  • bear trap
  • tuna light
  • high external wall
  • top tier window bars
  • water barrel
  • large water catcher
  • small water catcher
  • water purifier

Meteor Showers (Modtopia)

If you haven’t learned yet, Meteors fall into the Rust atmosphere and bring with them space resources! Yes, I’m super serial. Space resources! 🙂

Anyways, the amount of space resources were pretty crazy high so I had to cap it a little to make it a little more reasonable. We’ll see how it goes to know if I’ll need to cap it again.

There are three types of Meteor Showers that happen randomly – mild, optimal and extreme. Here are the changes I’ve made to each of them:

  • Mild
    • Drops stone, metal ore
    • Changed ranges of drops
      • stone 300-3000
      • metal ore 100-1000
    • Changed meteor count from 60 to 175
    • Changed storm radius from 200 to 100
    • Storm duration stays at 240
  • Optimal
    • Drops stones, metal ore, high quality metal ore
    • Changed ranges of drops
      • stone 400-4000
      • metal ore 200-2000
      • high quality metal ore 50-500
    • Changed meteor count from 45 to 100
    • Changed storm radius from 300 to 100
    • Changed storm duration from 150 to 100
  • Extreme
    • Drops stones, metal ore, high quality metal ore and sulfur ore
    • Changed ranges for drops
      • stone 500-5000
      • metal ore 300-3000
      • high quality metal ore: 100-1000
      • sulfur ore: 100-1000
    • Changed meteor count from 125 to 50
    • Storm radius stays at 100
    • Storm duration stays at 30

I’m working on letting players know about the location of the showers so it’s easier to find then.

Kits (Modtopia)

A while back, I changed the Subscriber Kit, a kit given to players who subscribe to the website, to give supply signals instead of C4, Rockets and giant goodies like that. For some reason I noticed that didn’t take effect. Doh!

Now the subscriber kit will give players 5 supply signals. Since you can use the kit 3 times per wipe, that’s – you did the math already didn’t you? – 15 supply signals! That is quite a lot of goodies. I recommend subscribing.

Environmental Saves (Modtopia)

No it has nothing to do with that Al Gore stuff. A few weeks ago we had an issue with server lag. We’ve since figured it out, but during that process I had set the server to save the environment less frequently thinking it could be related.

Now that the lag issue is resolved, I’m adjusting the saves to occur more frequently. This is important in the event that the server does crash for any reason, your progress should not be lost.

Saves should happen now every 5 minutes as opposed to every 10 and you should even see a chat message stating it’s happening.

Server Restarts (Modtopia)

Server restarts were set to 12PM and 12AM EST, but I’ve found they might not be the best times. I’ve changed this to 4AM and 4PM Eastern Time to hopefully avoid interrupting anyone. Let me know if you find the server restart interrupts your playtime!

Hey Bumfuzzlers! I have a bunch of changes to Modtopia to give you a heads up about! There are changes to airdrops, decay, hordes, the store and more! Also, it’s a fresh wipe tonight so let’s take a look!

Airdrops

It appears that timed airdrops were dropping directly to players due to an oversight in the configuration. Now that should be stopped. The airdrops will drop randomly in the map. Thanks MrNiceGuy for the feedback.

In addition, I’ve made it so that there is a mass airdrop of 3 total airdrops at a time, a few times per day. Enjoy!

Mag Boost & Life Stealer

I’ve finally decided to heck with certain plugins since they are a bit overpowered. Magazine Boost and Life Stealer now have been removed from VIPs and from the store.

Zambie Hordes

I had the zambies set to 40 hordes of 3 to 10 zambies each. I’ve now set them to 15 hordes of 3 to 25 each. This should create more dynamic sizes, but allow people to spawn without getting mauled by the undead.

Spawn Kits

When you spawn, depending on your Prestige level (/loyalty) you start with certain items. For instance, VIPs would start with full armor. This has now been changed. Now you’ll spawn with shorts or pants and a few items. Going forward I’ll probably add additional clothes, but of low worth. Hopefully this ensures veteran players are not overpowered.

Decay

Now buildings should require even less upkeep. Overall, the server is now set to 66% lower decay and it was just lowered 33% from what it was. This should help everyone relax a bit more around the fireplace. Thanks MrNiceGuy, nrf3rd3r for the feedback.

Raid Sympathy

Everyone feels bad for your sorry Bumfuzzler, but not that bad. I’ve lowered the amount of sympathy you get back to 75%. Originally it was 100% for testing. Now you’ll get something, but you certainly won’t be rewarded for being a victim you whiner. I suspect I’ll continue to lower it until it feels right. Thanks nrfh3rd3r for the feedback.

In-Game Store

The store is a balancing act. I recently raised things up in price and lowered quantity, but it still needed some work. I’ve now made another bunch of changes, but I’ll assume more will be needed. Obviously getting these prices right requires finesse and time. I’m trying to find a reasonable price that isn’t too low, but certainly seems purchasable.

Here’s the changes:

  • Supply Signal cost raised from 1 to 2 RP
  • Camera is now 1 for 1 RP
  • Binoculars is now 1 for 1 RP
  • Flashlight is now 1 for 1 RP
  • Components were tweaked
  • Removed all food and water
  • Small stocking cost raised from 1 to 2 RP
  • Bandages quantity lowered from 50 to 25
  • Medical Syringes quantity lowered from 100 to 10
  • Large Medkit raised to 15 for 1 RP
  • Cloth quantity changed from 500 to 250
  • Crude Oil quantity changed from 750 to 250
  • Explosives quantity lowered from 50 for 5 RP to 1 for 2 RP
  • Gun Powder quantity lowered from 250 to 50
  • HQ Metal Ore quantity lowered from 300 to 150
  • Sulfur Ore quantity lowered from 1,500 to 150
  • Leather quantity lowered from 500 to 250
  • Low Grade Fuel quantity lowered from 500 to 150
  • Metal Ore quantity lowered from 500 to 250
  • Scrap quantity lowered from 200 to 150
  • Stones quantity lowered from 2,500 to 1,250
  • Wood quantity lowered from 4,000 to 2,000

I have a lot more to balance, but I hope this brings some things in line. My goal is to reduce overpowered stuff and also the ability to get certain items too easily. After all, it’s no fun if you can get too many things without effort. Some items must be sought after. Looking for feedback from you Bumfuzzlers on the changes! Have fun out there!

Ransack, Sympathy, Ladders

Hey Bumfuzzlers! I’ve got some big changes for you that will definitely change the way you play. I’ve finally been able to finish a new exclusive plugin, available to only our servers that will hopefully remake everyone’s experience with Rust when it comes to raiding. Along with that, I also have some large and small changes I wanted to let you know about. Read on!

Fuses (Modtopia)

Turned out there was a really low fuse count on the server so I’ve increased them a bit. Originally there were around 6 or 7 in the world, but now they’re a little more than double that. I can increase them more of course, but since it’s an important item, I didn’t want to saturate the loot tables with them. You will find that fuses will spawn either individually or in groups of two!

You can now find them in the following areas:

  • locked ch47 crates
  • elite crates
  • mine crates
  • mine carts
  • normal crates
  • underwater advanced crates

Bad Bot Behavior (Modtopia)

I’ve seen the bot either replying with answers that were confusing or not replying to questions. I’ve made some adjustments to ensure more questions are answered and some confusing wording is reduced – hopefully 🙂

Whatever you do, don’t tell the bot he’s handsome. He already has a big head!

Ladder Raiding (Modtopia)

For a long time, Modtopia has had ladders disabled in the building blocked zone. Well, it just so happened the other night beef cake asked me to enable them. I’ve been scheming to enable this for a while, but I was looking to complete a separate raid related idea first.

I’ve always felt allowing building building blocked zones negated the idea of the cupboard. I mean, why have a building blocked zone if others can build in that building blocked zone? It’s called a BUILDING BLOCKED ZONE lol Well, it is what it is, some like it and it does help with solo raiding.

Due to some other changes, that you’ll see when you read on, I’ve changed the server to allow ladders in building blocked zones. Watch your back!

Anti-Offline Raiding (Modtopia)

For a while now, players received a 5 hour Anti-Offline Raid Protection window. Ten minutes after you sign off, you get 100% protection and then it degrades each hour by 20% until it goes to zero. This is going to change slightly.

Instead of a 20% decrease per hour, Anti-Offline Protection will now decrease each hour by 25% to cover a 4 hour window. So, after 10 minutes, it goes to 100%, but then after an hour it goes to 75%, then 50%, 25% and then to zero.

For the record, I’m not a fan of the Anti-Offline Raid Protection, but mostly because it does a very poor job of communicating to the player, the fact that a base is protected. I also don’t like the various abuses that can go on with it. Due to this, I have been working on a replacement for this that I feel will be more fair, but it will be a little while until that’s ready.

As with enabling ladder raiding, this should encourage more raiding, bringing us to the major change I mentioned earlier.

Raid Sympathy (Modtopia)

Now to what I’ve been working on delivering to you Bumfuzzlers – an exclusive plugin you’ll only find here on our servers, that will hopefully cushion the tears typically associated with getting raided and hopefully reduce leavers who get raided and leave the server in search for freshly wiped goodness. Let’s face it, there’s a real suck feeling thinking of all the time you’ll have to spend getting your Rust life back together. No one likes that.

With the new plugin, Raid Sympathy, when someone raids you, the server will sympathize. In fact, it will sympathize to the point that it will give you a percentage of the resources lost due to damaged items. For instance, let’s say someone blows in your door. You’ll get a percentage of those resources back so you can either throw up a new door or quickly get a new base up and running. That means you can be back at it without much delay, dangerous and vengeful!

As of this post, this new plugin has gone into effect, but of course I expect changes over the next couple wipes until it’s tweaked.

How does it work?

  • Some Bumfuzzler blows up your stuff
  • 10 minutes after you’re violated, you are given 75% of the resources for that blown up stuff (this % may change in the future)
  • You are notified that you have these resources available, both every so often and when you sign on
  • You can check to see if you have resources available (/sympathy)
  • You can choose to accept the resources whenever you’d like (/sympathy get)
  • Resources will accumulate so if you’re raided again before you accept the resources they’ll be added to

What items are covered?

  • All basic structural items such as walls, foundations, frames, etc.
  • All structurally related items such as doors, window treatments, etc.
  • All items like barricades, water catchers, furnaces, etc.

My hope is that this will now balance out raiding. It’ll be easier to raid, but the affects of the practice will be less intrusive and won’t ruin the entire wipe for players even if they were foundation wiped. Sure you’ll lose items, but you’ll get something in return. If you build your base wisely, it should help you keep things going.

Leveling Gather Rates

I’ve tinkered with gather rates a little bit. I’m still trying to find the sweet spot. I was hoping to extend the levels from 50 to 100, but the math just isn’t there. It would give veteran players far too much advantage.

Here’s what’s been changed.

  • The default multiplier was raised from 1 to 1.25. This should hopefully help new players get resources slightly quicker.
  • The points per hit were raised from 30 to 50. Will help players gain levels faster.
  • The points per hit at night were raised from 60 to 100. Will make night more valuable.
  • The per level multiplier was lowered from 1.25 to 1.00.
  • The level cap remains capped at 50
  • The per level multiplier at night lowered from 2.0 to 1.5. You’ll still see some serious multipliers at night.

Don’t forget that Quarries are boosted to 10x the resources during the day and 12x at night! They should be a great source of resources.

Raid Notes

I switched plugins to help me log raids so that I’ll have the best information possible for if something doesn’t go as expected. Of course I’m watching you troublemakers! 🙂 I think given these changes, I’m going to need to have some more robust logging, but we’ll see! 🙂

Base Size Increase

To avoid spamming, the building size was set to 2,000 structural items. I’ve now raised this up to 2,500 to give designers a little more freedom – especially with the new changes to raiding. This way you can add just a few more walls in between you and the no-do-gooders!

Buried Loot, Discordomics, Guilt

Have I got an update for you Bumfuzzlers! 🙂 This one has a lot in it, so take your time, get some raw chicken, toss it on the grill and relax with your pookie bear! 🙂 We’ve got a bunch of fixes, new ways to earn money, buried treasure hunts, Discord integration and more! All of these changes apply to Modtopia unless otherwise stated. Read on!

Chat Bot

I view the chat logs as often as I can to understand what is confusing to players and/or what they have questions with and I also take note of questions I receive in other ways. As more explanation can never hurt, I made a couple modifications to the plugin list on the website and also expanded the bot a bit more.

To add additional help for players who may be unsure about commands or simply forget them, I did the following:

  1. I’ve added keywords that can be used with the exclamation point (!) to give you information on commands.

For example: !wipe, !trump, !hillary, !car, !trade, !horse, !kit, !home, !tp, !teleport, !ao, !offline, !bgrade, !mute, !clan, !friend, !map, !minimap, !pc, !challenge, !loyalty, !points, !prestige, !help, !admin and so on. I still have lots of add, but this is a start.

  1. You can ask the bot questions in plain English.

For example: How does radiation work? How do I use the map? How do I add members to my clan? How can I make a player shut up? How does offline protection work? How do I tp? How do I create a home? How do I create a terminal? How do I place a camera? How do I buy items? What can I spend money on?

Variations of these should work, but as I tweak it, the bot should become more fluid and answer more and more questions.  I would suggest using the word ‘how’ and then a keyword in your sentence. For instance, How do I delete home?, How do I create a home? and How do I set a home?

Your Dead Body

Apparently /where wasn’t working. I switched plugins and it works now. This one shows the grid and the distance so you can return to the scene of the crime and witness the silliness that most likely had occurred. Thanks for feedback Ron Swanson, ATaXiA, MrNiceGuy, isueIt and others.

Treasure Event

I had reports that the grid for the treasure chest event was not reported correctly both when typing /dtd or in the chat message provided when the event started. That should be sorted now and the grid should be reported properly so you can find the goodies! Thanks for feedback ATaXiA.

RustNET

Previously, accessing /rustnet would not give you much information on what you needed to do and it’s been a peeve of mine for some time. I just hadn’t gotten around to it. I’ve done some modification to give you some instructions on how to get started. Accessing /rustnet will advise you on how to create a terminal and get a terminal ID. Once you setup a terminal and access it to get the terminal ID,  you will see additional help. This one applies to Vanillatopia as well. Thanks isueIt for reporting the need.

Remote Turrets

The ability to link Remote Turrets to RustNET terminals was problematic in that it simply didn’t work! When typing the /rt command, nothing would happen. Now this is fixed so you can take control over your turrets to mow down those pesky chickens! 🙂 Thanks for feedback isueIt.

Auto Searchlights

There was a very strange issue that would come after taking control of a remote searchlight through a RustNET terminal. After disconnecting from the remote searchlight, everything would seem normal, but you couldn’t build and sometimes you could even experience random damage as if you were being burned or stuck on a barbed barricade! This wouldn’t affect anyone but you so the rest of the server would be fine. Restarting the server is the only thing that would fix the issue.

It turns out this seems to be a conflict with the Proximity Alert plugin – the plugin that allows you to be alerted about the presence of another player or NPC within a given distance. For now, since the /prox plugin has some issues, I’ve disabled it. I’ll look into it’s issues in the future, but I can’t promise anything 🙁 Thanks for feedback on this problem isueIt.

Raid Guilt

It’s been tame for a while. I’d like to see a little more raiding going on and it seems a few of you would also. A semi-problem is lots of you regular Bumfuzzlers are friendly with each other and are hesitant to raid one another. That must stop! Jk 🙂 Fine, be friends! That’s great! I’ll just remove the guilt from raiding!

From now on, I’m going to make it more difficult for you to know whose bases are whose. This way when you raid someone, you can’t really feel guilty since you didn’t know it was your friend’s base! When your friend screams they were raided, just tell them you didn’t know! or show genuine concern and vow to track down the person who did it! Revel in the excitement of barging into some unknown person’s house only to find your friend sleeping by the fireplace! Doh!

What does this mean? It means /prod was short lived and the raid notes you see in chat when someone is raiding are going away! I want to add back some of the mystery and secrecy about raiding and being able to see base ownership doesn’t allow for that.

Raid! Be free! Be careless! No worries about hurting feelings! 🙂 You didn’t know who’s base it was! 😉 It wasn’t your fault!

Kits

It turns out after the wipe, I missed resetting kit usage so if you used a kit toward the end of the previous wipe, you may not have been able to use it this wipe due to the cooldown. I’ve gone ahead and reset the kits so this should no longer be the issue. Some of you may get a free kit use, enjoy! Thanks to WRecKLeSS for the heads up!

As I posted last, I removed any of the kits from the website store that might be considered pay to win. It turns out I forgot to remove those kits from /kit in-game. Thanks to isueIt for pointing that out. I’ve now removed those kits.

Discordomics

We have a new Discord event which will provide players with the chance to claim dollars towards their economic balance! The event runs at a random times (usually within the hour) and also provides a random amount of money each time. When it runs, you’ll see messages similar to the messages below.

In the example, you would copy the text /get <code> and then paste it into the chat in game. In this case, by using the command posted in Discord, players would receive 157 dollars in currency! Just hang out in Discord and rake in the dough! Just keep in mind only the first 3 players get the reward so you have to hurry!

Since I enabled it yesterday isueIt is raking in the cash! I see him in Discord grabbing every cent! 🙂 Best to be quick!

Discord Communication

In keeping with the idea of expanding Discord functionality, I’ve implemented the ability for players to communicate with Discord from inside the game. This can be extremely helpful because wherever I am, I get messages on my phone via the Discord app. This means if you need to get in touch with me, you can do use Discord itself or you can be lazy and do it from chat in Rust. Obviously consider I do work so my response time can vary, but at least I’ll know about it at some point – sometimes Steam has  away of losing messages.

So what can you do? Two major things:

  • /report (player) (message) – Reports a player to Discord, tracks their number of reports.
  • /message (message) – Sends message to Discord.

I’ve given everyone access to these commands and as long as it’s not abused, it’ll stay that way. I urge you to use them in order to communicate with me (and Discord).

Buried Treasure

This one should be a lot of fun! Find treasure maps that lead to treasure and gold coins you can cash in for dollars! The treasures can be on land or under water!

When you find a map, simply set it as the active item in your tool belt, type /markmap or right-click (the later seems a little buggy at the moment). The map will be removed from your inventory, you’ll get a message about the grid location in chat where you can find your buried treasure, and the default Rust map (key ‘G’) shows an explosion icon in the specified grid only the map wielding player can see.

Once you get within 5 meters or so, you’ll get an announcement that the loot is nearby and the explosion map icon will be removed. Now you can open loot and take the booty! You may gain new maps from the treasure or even get gold coins!

If you receive gold coins, simply set them as the active item, type /sellgold or right-click (again the later seems buggy right now). You will automatically gain dollars towards your economic balance that you can use in the store.

TIP: DO NOT THROW MAPS OR GOLD COINS ON GROUND! You cannot pick them back up. You can however loot them and store them, give them to others just fine.

Also, note that maps come in 4 rarity flavors as you can see in the picture below.

Rarity Levels:

  • Tan – spawns a basic crates
  • Green – spawns an uncommon crate
  • Blue – spawns a rare crate
  • Purple – spawns an elite crate

Maps will spawn throughout the world in crates and boxes!

If you have any trouble remembering any of this in game, you can type /treasurehelp or !buried or “How does buried treasure work?”, etc.

Next Wipe

Modtopia will be wiping on Thursday 5/24, but Vanillatopia will get a pass until 6/7. I want to see how things go this next cycle, but there’s a chance I may do two things:

  • remove decay or lessen it signifantly
  • remove offline protection or lessen it signifantly

Let’s see how these recent changes go first.

Wipe is coming on Thursday with what seems to be some awesome updates for you Bumfuzzlers! In the meantime, I’ve got a bunch of updates ranging in topics from the items blocked after a wipe, to new loyalty levels, bot adjustments and 2 new plugins! Read on!

Wipe Blocking

Originally, after a wipe, I was blocking some of the more advanced guns, but I’ve changed that. No guns are blocked at all now. Then, various explosives were blocked for 36 and 48 hours. I do this only to give a slight delay in raiding. Let’s call it a ‘period of peace’ 🙂

Loyalty Levels

I’m trying to make it so there are loyalty levels within reach for all players and rewards are given out every so often instead of having to wait for 1,000s of loyalty points. Additionally, I think this method will give players an appreciation and an understanding of what they’re getting for their game time.

The second phase of these new loyalty levels are as follows:

  • Level 6 (45 loyalty points) Tame boar, extend your inv, more! (/pet help)
  • Level 7 (60 loyalty points) Codelocks autolock w/your code! (/codelock)
  • Level 8 (100 loyalty points) Place bounty on a players head! (/rustnet)
  • Level 9 (200 loyalty points) Sort items into boxes with click of button!

In addition, the following changes were made:

  • Gaining a loyalty level will play a sound (as soon as I pick one lol)
  • You’ll be advised of your loyalty points and level every 30 minutes

Hopefully this adds a more polished element to the way loyalty points are given!

Jason Voorhees

Our favorite horror movie action here has undergone some changes after some feedback. Here’s what was done:

  • Lowered Jason count from 2 to 1. He’s got a pretty hefty payload.
  • Jason’s spawn range was increased from 50 meters to 200 meters (thanks DylanLAF)
  • His accuracy was lowered from 6 to 5 (thanks soundklown)
  • Roam range, the amount of distance Jason may roam around will be kept at 500 meters for now.

I’m still tinkering with his weapon. The Spas seemed not to work well cause he couldn’t hit anything. The Pistol now is too deadly. It’ll get there.

Monument NPCs

Been toying with the balance of the bots due to some accuracy comments (thanks WRecKLeSS), but it seems the accuracy is low at 4 out of a possible 10 settings so after some testing with DylanLAF, I decided to change the roam range (the range in which NPCs will follow you and/or engage with you) from 40 to 25. Hopefully this will help.

Barrel Points

As is, you’ll automatically get $5 for every 5 minutes you play, but now you’ll get dollars for busting up barrels too. I started out the setting at $10 for every 10 barrels you break. This is just an initial setting as I work out all of this currency setup so I expect it to change.

In the future, I have some interesting plans with currency such as allowing rewards for killing players, animals, etc. I might also give players the ability to rob each other. All of this is in preparation for a store of course that will allow players to purchase various kits, items, commands and so on.

BountyNET

Bounty I fear hasn’t been used much. I have a feeling this is due to it being fully command line with a lack of notifications. Now, we have BountyNET which is part of the same RustNET that works with Remote Turrets, Security Cameras and Search Lights.

Now, if you add a terminal in your base by typing /terminal add when having a laptop, it will give you the ability to access BountyNET where you can put a price on players heads using a very nice graphical user interface. Now people with bounties will be reminded too which is a very nice feature.

Ownership

Last, but certainly not least, players have wanted to identify ownership of bases for a while now. Well, I had a moment to revisit it and it should now work. Simply type /prod while looking at an object someone might have built. It will tell you the name of the player it belongs to and if they’re online or not. I hope to extend this functionality in the future, but for now this will do!

Homes, Teleports, Skin Choice

Time for some new plugins Bumfuzzlers! There’s a bunch of goodies coming your way! Graphical user interface for teleportation, more control over skinning, crafting lock on rockets and more! 🙂 Also, after a few hours of work and a wipe, the server seems to be behaving and your beloved plugins seem to all be working – including Skinbox! Check it out.

Plugin Fixed

There were a few items not working on Modtopia. Here’s a run down on those issues:

  • Skinbox is now working
  • Furnace Splitter is now working
  • Skin Loot is now working
  • Lusty Map is now working
  • Building Restrictor is now working

There’s some other items I still have to test, but overall it’s a good thing. Not sure what was wrong, but completely wiping the server and installing/re-configuring the plugins one by one got things working again.

Homes GUI

Let’s make getting home a little easier shall we? You teleport home all the time and you mistype your home name or forget your home name all the time! How annoying is that? Now, you’ll have a graphical menu like the one below and all ya gotta do is simply click the name and off ya go! This change affects only Modtopia.

You’ll find the commands are very much the same as they’ve always been, but it’s a lot smoother and of course /home will bring up a menu with your homes.

  • /home – Opens the homes GUI
  • /home {home} – Teleports you to the home
  • /sethome {home} – Creates a new home at your position
  • /delhome {home} – Deletes the home
  • /listhomes – Lists all your homes

Here are the settings again for Loyalty point levels:

  • Default: 3 homes, 30 daily, 5 min cooldown, 15 sec countdown
  • Legitimate: 3 homes, 32 daily (+2), 5 min cooldown, 15 sec countdown
  • Veteran: 4 homes (+1), 34 daily (+4), 4 min cooldown (-1), 12 sec countdown (-3)
  • Allegiance: 5 homes (+2), 40 daily (+10), 3 min cooldown (-2), 10 sec countdown (-5)
  • VIP: 6 homes (+3), 50 daily (+20), 2 min cooldown (-3), 5 sec countdown (-10)

Teleport GUI

Similar to Homes GUI, we’ve got a graphical user interface for teleporting to people! No more typing in another players name and making typo after typo trying to get to where you’re trying to get to. You can of course use Friends UI to teleport to friends too (/fmenu), but for players who aren’t your best buds this is going to be super helpful! This affects only Modtopia

You’ll find the commands are very much the same as they’ve always been, but it’s a lot smoother and of course /tp will bring up a menu with players.

  • /tp – opens the tp GUI
  • /tpr {player} – sends a tp request to {player}
  • /tpa – accepts the incoming tp request
  • /tpd – denies the incoming tp request
  • /tpc – cancels the teleport
  • /tpb – teleports you back (Available for players who purchase the Warp package)

Here are the settings again for Loyalty point levels:

  • Default: 30 daily teleport requests, 5 min cooldown, 30 sec countdown

Teleport Adjustments

I also noticed a couple of settings I didn’t expect so I adjusted them:

  • Teleport cooldown for players with the Warp package was changed from 300 to 90
  • Teleport countdown for legitimate was changed from 30 to 24

Craft Lock-On Rockets

Now, on both Modtopia and Vanillatopia, you can craft smoke rockets so you can lock on to whatever you’d like! Great for taking down the heli or damaged supply plane!

Simple type /craft.lockon and make sure you have a basic rocket and 3 tech trash. 

Player Skins

There’s a new skin mod in town and it allows you to do some pretty nice things.

The Player Skin plugin will allow you to purchase skins using tokens converted from your earned currency and then set default skins for the items you craft. The great thing is it covers everything from weapons to clothing to chairs and boxes. You can even vote for the skins to tell people if you like them!

This change will be for both Modtopia and Vanillatopia, however on Vanillatopia there won’t be any need for tokens or economy.

/skin shop – Opens the Skin Shop Menu
/skin – Attempts to Skin the item you are holding (You need to get skins in the shop first)

Unavailable Plugins

I didn’t enable every single plugin on Modtopia after the wipe as I’m working through them. It might take me a couple days to do that. I believe I got all the popular ones and most of the semi-popular ones. If you find something isn’t working, please let me know. I’ll jump right on it.

Before the upcoming wipe on Thursday, I’ve got a few updates for you Bumfuzzlers. Mostly they’re just tweaks and adjustments, but important to recognize nonetheless! Here we go!

Bumfuzzler Forums

I’ve made a few updates to the forums. Here’s a couple of the updates:

  • You can now configure a signature
  • Main forum page now shows forum statistics
  • You can now send private messages
  • Under avatar each user now shows data

Animal Population

With my recent changes to population of resources, animal counts may have been nerfed a bit more than I wanted them to be on Modtopia. Thanks to a heads up from WRecKLeSS I checked the numbers and decided to bump animals up 50%.  For instance, bear counts were limited to 18 and now they’re 27. This is about the same increase you can expect for other animals.

VIP Class Autokits

Last week I trimmed the autokit fat for VIPs on Modtopia, but I left Allegiance, Veteran and Legitimate autokits alone. Now I’ve made a few adjustments to avoid having players spawn with too many items they may not want. For those of you unsure what I’m talking about, the autokits are what you spawn with. Depending on your loyalty points, you’ll spawn with different items. For instance, Allegiance doesn’t spawn with the same items as VIP and Legitimate doesn’t spawn with items as good as Veteran.

M249 VIP Kit

Earning 10,000 loyalty points (/loyalty) will get you VIP status and being a VIP on Modtopia will get you access to the M249 kit. Well, it appears that I had a typo on the website stating the command was /kit m249 when it was really /kit vip_m249. I’ve since fixed that error thanks to ATaXiA. I personally would recommend using /kit anyway as it shows an easier graphical menu of all the kits.

Thursday’s Wipe

This Thursday, I’m going to wipe the Modtopia server at around 8:00pm EST. This time it might take me slightly longer because I am going to reinstall everything on the server and test many of the plugins one by one – especially those that have been giving us trouble. I’m thinking it might be an hour or maybe 90 minutes or so.

I’m eager to get this done also because I have a couple of new goodies coming your way! 🙂 I want to start with a good foundation before moving forward with those.

I’ve made a lot of small tweaks to both Vanillatopia and Modtopia which will hopefully equate to some improved gameplay for you Bumfuzzlers! We’ve got everything from resource spawning to meteor showers! Check it out!

Resource Spawning

The resources were spawning a bit slow on Vanillatopia so I decided to take a look at resource spawning on both Vanillatopia and Modtopia to see if I could make some improvements. Here’s what I changed:

  • Vanillatopia
    • Resources respawn 2x faster
    • Resources increased by 10%
  • Modtopia
    • Resources respawn 2x faster
    • Resources decreased by 10%

I decided to lower the resources on Modtopia because resource gathering is already very high and with all the plugins, this could increase performance for some people with lower end computers. Maybe some of you will get longer distance kills even! The amount of difference in count for instance is about 30 trees over the entire map.  I doubt it will be noticed and of course let me know if you feel any pain from this change and we can change it back. Keep in mind this is a change for all resources so it affects trees, animals, mushrooms, etc. It’s critical that I get feedback from you about how this is working. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)

Meteor Shower Event

What would life be without the occasional weather related disaster? Well, now, every so often, meteors will rain from the sky! They are random, in random areas of the map and they may be extreme or mild. They can absolutely do damage to players and buildings (but not much) so watch out! These showers come with falling debris in the form of resources!

This video does not do it justice, but it gives you an idea.

I’ve only added this event to Modtopia for now, but I’ll consider adding it to Vanillatopia in the coming weeks.

Bumfuzzler Forum

I’ve made a few additions to the forums that will hopefully make it more usable and friendly. Please enjoy the following tweaks!

  • Increased the font size in various areas
  • Added a visual editor for posting
  • Checkbox now default to notify you on responses
  • Can now post images inline
  • Can now use @mention and person will be notified

Loot Adjustments

I’ve made a few tweaks to the loot on both Vanillatopia and Modtopia in various forms. Here’s a run down of the changes.

  • Vanillatopia
    • Turned off blueprint spawning as they’re unlocked (I hope this time for good) (Thanks to Freshmeat911 for feedback)
    • Helicopter Pilot Eject event: the pilot now has inventory to loot (Thanks to Rayyy for suggestions)
    • Changed rarity of the Smoke Rocket to 3, the same as other rockets. It was disabled. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)
    • Smoke Rockets now spawn in Elite Crates. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)
  • Modtopia
    • Autokit for VIP: Removed food and torch, added 5 radiation pills (Thanks Orion and WRecKLeSS for feedback)
    • SuperHeli loot was weak. Now all crates will have at least 3 items each instead of sometimes 1 or 2 (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • SuperHeli loot now matches the SuperBradley loot tables (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • Ensured SuperHeli crates were set to 3 for regular and refuel events and at 1 for the pilot eject event (Thanks to Obey Mike Opp for feedback)
    • SuperBradley crates reduced from 4 to 3

Plane Crash

As has happened on Modtopia, it appears the plane was indeed crashing – into mountains! lol I’ve adjusted it’s fly height to 5 meters higher. Hopefully that will be the end to that. (Thanks to Rayyy for feedback)

Chainsaw, SPAS-12, Greif

Patch and wipe time Bumfuzzlers! The map and blueprints were wiped and you can thank WRecKLeSS for the choice of map this time around. Very nice job choosing the venue! And there’s a bunch to talk about! We’ve got Chainsaws, a new shotgun, chinook previews, new incendiary shells, a bunch of changes and grief protection! Looky here!

Chainsaw

It’s in! And it’s great for collecting wood for sure! Take a gander!

Pop in some low grade fuel and right mouse to start it up.  It appears it’ll take a few tries since it has a 40% success rate of starting, but once it’s going it destroys trees and people, but that’s about it. People will hear you using it for sure. Shame they didn’t make it cut down wood structures. I mean, that doesn’t make sense. It’s a chainsaw!

SPAS-12

Wow! I didn’t see this coming! Rust meets Modern Warfare 2 lol Take a look at this bestiality!

You can’t craft it which means by default it’ll only be in the airdrops and Bradley or Helicopter crates. I’ll have to adjust the loot tables to ensure its in there so it might not be immediately. It’s semi-automatic and great for close quarters!

CH47 Chinook

No it’s not in just yet, but you can get more looks at it below.

They are also creating a new crate specifically for the chinook event

Nailgun Balance

They adjusted the nailgun so it’s a little easier to use by increasing the fire rate a bit.

Incendiary Shells (aka Dragon’s Breath)

These are going to look awesome in a gunfight at night! Take a look!

They contain much larger projectiles, making it easier to hit your target as well as producing a magnesium flame on contact, slowing movement and dealing damage over time. That’s some serious benefits!

Oak Trees & Bushes

They aren’t in there yet, but take a look at what’s coming most likely in the next patch.

Here are the new bushes. Apparently they’re native to North America and are called the Glaucous Willow and the Spicebush! They’re tall enough to use for cover.

Here are the oak trees. There’s going to be leafy and dead varieties.

Cupboard Grief Protection

Now, if your cupboard is destroyed and it has resources in it, your base will use part or all of those resources to purchase up to 24 hours of decay protection on all building blocks that are currently connected to the building. This requires resources to be in the cupboard, so make sure to put a code lock on it. Seems better than being cupboard raided!

Water Reflections

They’ve added some major glare to the water which I’ve already had some of you complain about. If you want to turn it off, change the world reflections setting in your options.

Repair Reduction

Repairs now will cost 20% of the item cost instead of 50% and of course the repair bench no longer requires wood to craft!

Thanks to feedback from you Bumfuzzlers, I’ve made a couple of updates to the servers which should hopefully make things purr a bit better.

Item Stacking

I noticed that several new items were added to the game that I didn’t account for in the stacking plugin settings. Now I have. The following items now stack up to 256.

Additionally, I had most items stacked at 200 (except for weapons which are not stacked). This seems to be fairly good. Most items didn’t originally stack at all and ammo was stacked at either 64 or 128. Now I’ve bumped everything up to 256.

Additionally, I’ve changed two items:

  • Crude Oil was originally stackable to 500, now it’s 100,000
  • Scrap was originally stackable to 1,000, now it’s 100,000

These changes were made for Bumfuzzler Modtopia and Bumfuzzler Vanillatopia. Thanks to Orion for his feedback about this!

Blueprint Spawning

With blueprints being unlocked for everyone on Bumfuzzler Vanillatopia by default, I turned off having them spawn in the loot. This way, it’ll make way for some other items instead. It’s like a loot boost because there will always be another usable item in the loot instead of a blueprint.

Helicopter Refuel Event

It appears the Helicopter Refuel event creates a bit of an issue at the Launch Site as it spawns NPCs which are very difficult to kill on top of that main building due to space. Because of this, I’ve decided to remove the Launch Site as one of the refueling options. Now the helicopter will only land to refuel at the Airfield, Powerplant and Harbors. Hopefully this eliminates the issues of NPCs bunching up together as those monuments are more wide open.

Airdrop Loot

I’ve made a couple tweaks to the airdrop thanks to some feedback from WRecKLeSS, but I’ll be looking for feedback to see if they need more adjusting.

  • I finally found where the Pump Jack was spawning. That worthless item is now gone from the loot tables
  • Airdrops now drop between 4 and 8 items instead of 6 and 8 making it slightly more dynamic. You could get 4 items, you could get 8.
  • I removed several low value items from airdrops to make the loot slightly better

Night Gather Rates

More feedback from WRecKLeSS proved valuable as it appeared the night bonus wasn’t working as expected. I took a look at it and realized I needed to do it in a completely different way with a different modification.

NOTE: These rates are fixed, but due to Zlevels, your rates will rise. For instance, 125% of Zlevel 10 in Wood is of course not the same as 125% of Zlevel 20 in Wood. Take notice of the Quarry boosting.

I’ve adjusted the multipliers as follows:

  • Day Rate Quarry Multiplier: 250%
  • Day Rate Pickup Multiplier: 100%
  • Day Rate Resource Multiplier: 100%
  • Day Rate Resource Bonus Multiplier: 100%
  • Day Rate Resource High Quality Metal Multiplier: 100%
  • Day Rate Crop Gather Multiplier: 100%
  • Night Rate Quarry Multiplier: 500%
  • Night Rate Pickup Multiplier: 125%
  • Night Rate Resource Multiplier: 125%
  • Night Rate Resource Bonus Multiplier: 125%
  • Night Rate Resource High Quality Metal Multiplier: 125%
  • Night Rate Crop Gather Multiplier: 125%

I’ll keep adjusting multipliers as I receive feedback. Hopefully this should increase the desire to let the sun go down.
